Gasol deal back in works?

the paper speculates it could be Gasol going to Chicago for Andres Nocioni (sign-and-trade), Joakim Noah, Chris Duhon and some filler to make the salaries match.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/6990732

Holy freaking crap. Please God, let this be true. Gasol for Noc,Noah & Du??

The reporter at the Daily Herald made up that rumor.

Sum-Times[/url]"]Bulls general manager John Paxson said he has had no recent talks with the Grizzlies concerning a trade for Pau Gasol.

A newspaper report Wednesday suggested such talk was at ''the preliminary stages,'' which Paxson flatly denied.

''I have not had one conversation concerning Gasol,'' said Paxson, who called the story -- which floated a deal of Andres Nocioni, Joakim Noah, Chris Duhon and other considerations for the 7-foot Grizzlies forward -- ''a complete fabrication.''

Darn. I was getting excited about a lineup of hinrich, gordon, deng, gasol, wallace with thabo, TT coming off bench. That would win it all imo.

That's a ton of cash for a role player, IMO. Color me unimpressed with Pax so far this offseason. I reserve the right to alter that opinion if he trades for KG.

I'd be shocked. How many times have we been down that road with those guys? They aren't getting all our good players for him, so unless they are willing to get realistic....

I'd be stunned on two levels:

a) The Wolves become more reasonable and take a Gordon-Noc-Duhon-and one of Noah or Thomas type package; and

b) Pax shows that he has the stones to make a deal like that.

To me, Pax drafted a role player at 9 last week. He has at least one other Noah-type in Noc, who he just shelled out a huge amount to keep. How do you find PT for all these energy types at PF?

I hope the answer is that you don't and you trade one of the three instead. I think Thomas is most likely to be gone based on how Skiles and Pax seem to value players.

How exciting.

Pax blew this.

What do you propose he should have done?

Yeah, why didn't we sign an awesome talent like Rashard Lewis!?

Its like Pax doesn't even care!!

It's not the FA class that I'm upset about. Let's be honest, this class was complete garbage and it is real pathetic how guys like Rashard Lewis are getting max deals. But I'm upset with Paxson's inability to pull a trigger on a deal. If those rumors were right, Paxson had to have been crazy to not pull the deal on Gasol. Does anyone really expect this team (with no real upgrades) to go farther than we were this past season? Cleveland isn't going to get any worse and we still can't match up with Detroit's guards.

yes, since most of the bulls core players are young and still improving. cant say that about anyone on detroit, or cleveland really (face it cavs fan lebron is extremely mature for his age and his peak wont be much better than he is now)

What deal are you talking about? Some random sports writer speculated Noc, Duhon, Noah, and "filler" for Gasol. Is that the deal you are talking about? If that's the deal, I think Pax would have done it. However, unless that "filler" is Ben Gordon or Luol Deng, I doubt Memphis would do it. And if you trade either Gordon or Deng (along with Noc and Noah), I don't think we are much of a better team, if at all. You can't force teams to trade us their stars for our scrubs.

I think this team will be much better next year. Deng is still improving, Thomas is improving, Thabo is improving, and Noc could not have possibly played any worse against Detroit. Add in Noah and possibly some contribution from Curry and Gray and you got an improved basketball team. If the Bulls can get off to a better start this year, they should win the 2 seed.

I hope you're right; I think the sky is the limit for Deng. Keep in mind I'm a huge Gordon fan, but unless he can step up his defensive efforts, I don't really see us being able to stop any team's bigger guards. That's why i think he's expendable in any sort of trade.

We're still going to need that one player to get us over the hump IMO. Would Gasol be it? He may be the best and only realistic option for us out there. I thought getting Gasol for Noc, Noah, and Duhon would've been an amazing deal for us. If we want to be title contenders, Paxson is going to have to pull the trigger on something.

Yeah, that's the deal I was talking about. I still think Gasol will be dealt, so I'm not giving up on this offseason yet. But as of right now, I don't think we've improved at all and I still think we're the 3rd best team in the East.

And I agree with your assessments on Tyrus and Thabo. Tyrus really seems to have been working on his game this whole offseason and I look for him to have a solid season. But I don't think you can count on any of the rookies that are coming in to be contributors on this team.

Since you brought it up...

If the Bulls core is all young enough to be capable of improvement, then players like Gibson, Pavlovic, Varejao, and LeBron(yes he's big and strong, he can improve other areas of his game without lifting weights) certainly can too. Detroit had 2 first rounders this year. And there's also Orlando, Washington, and New Jersey to be reckoned with.

Problem is that the Cavs are in a huge cap crunch on two of their two RFA's (Pavlovic and Varajeo) that will put them over the luxury tax threshold if they get a significant enough offer from another team.

Don't know if they view either of those players in the 12-15 mil a year range (dollar for dollar match on the tax)

It was a BS trade rumor.

Oh yes, this monumental opportunity he had to gut the core to get an aging veteran. I'll take my chances with a young, developing team that got to the second round this past season over a gutted team with an aging KG.

The latest Gasol trade was confirmed to be nothing but a stupid rumor, so let's take that off the table right now.

As for KG, I'm not willing to gut this entire team for him. And I don't think it would help, either, to remove both Deng & Gordon for KG.

Also of note, every other team in the league knows how close we are. None of them are going to just hand us a top inside scorer (i.e. superstar) without demanding the rest of our team in return. The best thing we can do in the absence of a lucky FA trade with a stupid team is to develop an inside scorer ourselves. We've got developing players -- I suggest we develop them.

Blaming Pax for not wanting to gut our entire club for an aging veteran? I'll not take part in that.

I'm not very well versed in the NBA cap structure, but I believe you. I think that's a different argument though, as I doubt jaydee was considering the Cavs cutting Varejao and Pavlovic when he made that comment. On that argument, from the brief stuff I've read, trading Hughes or Gooden seem to be popular solutions to the cap problem among some fans.

No doubt that's a popular solution among Cavs fans; those are the two most overpay players on the Cavs roster, especially Hughes. Good luck finding a GM willing to take on either of those contracts without some added talent thrown in by Cleveland to sweeten the deal.
