Just to add... might we be better off (although, I admit, I'd rather have Kobe regardless, because he's my favorite player) shipping that package over for KG and going with...

Wallace, KG, Deng, Thabo, Kirk

I'm not saying we would be...just tossing it out there. Our perimeter game would take a huge hit, unless Kirk/Thabo really improved.

USS, the Lakers would want depth behind Farmar. Smush is gone and Farmar only started the last 2 regular season games last season.

So what would LA's lineup be?

Odom

Bynum

Garnett

Duhon

?

-I'm not sure how that works under the cap.

-Why would anyone want Duhon when they have Farmair?

-That 4th team is getting hosed.

-It seems like we make out like bandits, while LA kind of makes a lateral move. It seems like they'd want more than just Garnett and Duhon. They're going to need a pick, too, or another really good player, because that move doesn't really make them better.

4th team might be getting someone almost as bad as Kwame?

For LA, it isn't really about improving, right? Kobe wants out. It's not like they want to trade him. A lateral move in which they still have a superstar would be a good thing, because they most likely aren't going to get equal value for Kobe in any one on one deals.

Deals can't be made until next week, right?

Not really sure.

I'm pretty sure Farmar would start at the 1 over Duhon. Luke Walton might fit in at the empty spot in the backcourt but he's really a 3.

Yeah, from what I hear LA is interested in maintaining a star player on the roster. This would do that.

Also, correct me if I'm missing something but I don't see how the 4th team is getting bamboozled -- they're getting nothing but the "unnamed player" could be anyone.

I'm of the mind that if Kirk didn't have to guard players like Wade, Bryant, Arenas, Redd, James, etc night in and night out his offensive numbers would improve even more than they did last year.

-Gordon, TT, Duhon and ninth pick isn't close to enough salary for Kobe. It's a shade under $14M and Kobe's due to make $19.5M next year before his trade kicker takes effect

-We don't know whom the 4th team is giving up.

-LA can't expect to trade Kobe and get better. That said, they'd have to be ecstatic to be getting the big ticket back.

Without a doubt I'd rather have Kobe, especially given the package you're giving up (Gordon, Duhon, Thomas, #9).

So does the recieving team have to make the salary equal out for the team give up the player that they are recieving, or do the salaries overall just have to equal out?

I agree...but if we make this deal, what on earth are we doing at the 4 next year?

Re-sign both Noc and PJ? It would suck to have an aging Wallace and PJ as our frontcourt... but you can't have it all, I guess.

The Bulls would need to clear ~$17M of cap space to take back Kobe's 19.5M salary.

Mikki Moore or Joe Smith would be options at the 4. They'd probably take the MLE.

So they'd have to renounce Noc or send him to the 4th team.

They would have to sign and trade Nocioni. The Bulls are over the salary cap but under the luxury tax threshold.

so apparently a video has surfaced of Kobe trashing Bynum and Kupchak

Welcome to 3-4 days ago and the reason the original Kobe thread on here started. ;)

He's not really trashing Bynum so much as saying (in so many words) that he was frustrated with the fact that they wouldn't deal Bynum for Jason Kidd.

Also, in an audio clip attached to the video, they plead with him to stay with the Lakers and he says something to the effect of, "Get a Bulls uniform, fellas."

From the same Kobe trade thread at RealGM...

The Latest from Ric Bucher on Sportscenter

He's said that The Bulls and The Lakers have indeed been in talks on a possible Kobe Bryant trade. The Lakers insist on getting a superstar in return, but they feel nobody on the Chicago team answers that calling. So they feel it would have to be a 3 way trade, with the 3rd team delivering the Superstar, and the Bulls delivering their pieces to the 3rd team while the Bulls would get Kobe. If a 3rd team gets involved, and the right pieces are involved, this trade could be done on draft night.

Seems to jibe, at least somewhat, with what we're hearing about the big trade involving the T-Wolves. Still don't get the 4th team part.

Bulls get: Kobe and Craig Smith (PF from Minny)

Minny gets: Gordon, Noc (sign n' trade), PJ Brown (sign n trade) and the Bulls' No. 1 (no. 9 overall)

LA gets: Garnett and Chris Duhon

I ran this through the ESPN trade checker and - depending on the salaries involved in resigning Noc and Brown - it could work. The Bulls might also have to sign n' trade someone like Sweetney.

I think this makes a lot of sense for all three teams.

Bulls are left with :

Hinrich

Kobe

Deng

Thomas

Wallace

Lakers:

Duhon (or a PG they pick with their No. 1)

Maurice Evans (or a SG they get with their pick. Perhaps the kid from USC?)

Odom

Garnett

Bynum

Minny:

Foye

Gordon

Ricky Davis

Noc

Blount

- Plus they can use their pick and the Bulls' pick, allowing them to pull in Brandon Wright (PF) at No. 7 and Hawes or Yi (Centers) at No. 9. That leaves them looking likes this:

Foye

Gordon

Davis/Noc

Noc/Wright

Blount/Hawes

Make sense?

I'm pretty sure it's different than the "Bulls Jersey" clip

Brown is an unrestricted free agent. If he doesn't retire, I suspect he's going to be looking for a ring. Can't see him agreeing to go to Minn, or any other non-contender other than his home town team (New Orleans), no matter what the salary.

I have nothing to add except to say that I'm loving this. There was some Bulls talk after Big Ben last year but it has been a while since so much attention was being paid to the West Side of Chicago.

Nope. It's the same exact one. Media just took till now to catch on about it.

Screw that, if there's a trade involving Garnett, take him over Kobe. Garnett would be a perfect fit and solve a heck of a lot of the Bulls' woes underneath.

I agree with that. Kobe would be a huge get and make the Bulls the Eastern Conference favorites. Garnett would be a huge get and make the Bulls a NBA Champion contender. (I am assuming similar deals would be traded for each)
