He doesn't think Andruw Jones, Torii HUnter or Ichiro will be moved because the teams will be in contention.

His shopping list includes: Helton, Griffey, Teixeira, TB OFs, Phillies OFs, Sweeney, Ensberg, a few Blue Jay players...

... but, no mention of Jacque Jones

On a completely unrelated subject, Rosenthal has this note in his around the horn section:

"How about that Cubs' rotation? Right-hander Jason Marquis and lefties Rich Hill and Ted Lilly rank fifth, ninth and 10th in the league, respectively, in ERA. Marquis, 28, says he has slowed down his delivery, raising his hands above his head more gradually and landing more toward third base. By driving his foot to that spot rather than swinging it, he says his arm is in position to throw any pitch. The last time Marquis felt as comfortable with his delivery was in 2004, his first season with the Cardinals . . ."

He mentions Sammy in the Teixera section... saying that the Rangers maybe more interested in trading Sammy than Teixera.

Yes, thank you.

The Rockies are gonna have to eat a crapload of Helton's contract. They won't get nearly enough for him either. I don't think he goes anywhere.

He'd be a nice backup for Lee....

If those outfielders are really all available, dealing Jones may be difficult if we wait till the deadline.

It may not be all that difficult if he puts up decent numbers. His contract isn't too terribly bad if he's producing similarly to last season.

I would imagine that Jones is not mentioned because he is likely to be dealt long before the deadline

How is Jones going to be traded? That leaves us with Floyd as the only LH threat. Not going to happen.

The so-called need for a LH threat is grossly overstated. The Cubs hit better vs RHP than LHP. They aren't in need of more LH bats, and it wouldn't kill them to lose Jones (who, by the way, is way down the list of Cubs hitters vs RHP this season).

Last time I looked, the Cubs didn't have a threat from the left side.

They appear to be pretty limited in threats from the right side as well, lately.

Beltran Jr can switch hit, and do his 4-3 impersonal just as good as JJ can.

I was under the impression that Daryle Ward is not an everyday player, and are we assuming Pagan will be?

If Jones is traded, our everyday lineup against RH would likely be

Theriot R

Soriano R

Lee R

Ramirez R

Floyd L

Murton R

Barrett R

DeRosa R

Let me reiterate that I DO NOT have a problem with this. However, I assume you all follow the Chicago Cubs, and have for a while, so you must know that this will never happen.

If Pagan (or Izturis) has sold his soul to the devil, or if Pie comes up and rakes, then we might have something to work with. Until then, Jones is going to be here.

If Jones was traded they would immediately promote Pie and play him every day. Theriot or Soriano become the back up CF. Pagan returns to AAA or gets released/ DFA'd.

I was thinking that too especially that first week of May when he had his OPS in the mid-700s and so many teams were struggling with their OF situation (numbers wise), but then I looked at his numbers again the last 2 weeks: as cliche as it sounds, I have to say it, I hate to say it - the guy is just bad. If he can't sustain decent hitting for more than a week, who is going to want him? Simple answer - nobody.

Pagan's doing his best to change this scenario.

Ride him while he's hot, it won't last too long.

instead of starting another thread, i'm just going to suggest we take a look at bobby abreu who is off to a very slow start. he's bound to bring his numbers up and can provide the defensive presence in right field that everyone wants.

i don't think he'd be too costly in terms of players given up, but the yankees might have to eat some of his deal.
