trade Mateo and sum other bum for him

Igawa is not getting moved

Reasons

1) Just signed - can't be traded at all until some date like 6/15 without approval, right?

2) Money left on contract - a lot

3) Present value - very low

1) Not sure if the regular FA rules apply here. Igawa was never a FA.

2) Most of the $$$ the Yanks invested here is sunk in the posting fee. The contract is actually pretty reasonable @ $4M/yr.

3) I'd say: Present value - very uncertain. The guy's been in MLB for a whole month.

See, Igawa could have been somewhat successful if someone like us Signed him. Where he would be facing crappier teams like we do most of the time. He could be a decent #4 or #5. But put him on the yankees facing all those power AL teams. I didn't think he had the talent to beable to put up even decent #'s against them.

But I'm not complaining about not getting him, because Lilly, Marquis, and Hill have worked out pretty darn good for us, so far.

It's surprising to me that he got sent down all the way to class A. That's a huge demotion.

Apparently the Yankees' best pitching coaches in the minors are down in Tampa.

Same here. I mean, how often do you see anybody get sent down directly from the MLB level to single A when their not injured? I'm guessing not too often.

It probably had more to do with the way their rosters were set up and single A was the smallest disruption. A player that's supposed to be ML quality that needs to straighten himself out can do that anywhere.

I'd expect him to spend a couple weeks there and get promoted to AAA to make sure he's really back on track before returning to the big club.

Or, as O_O mentioned, maybe they specifically wanted him to work with the Tampa pitching coach. Maybe he's the best in the system in getting struggling pitchers back on track.

As mentioned, the Yanks regularly send their projects down to A ball to work with those coaches. The people in Tampa have a lot of clout in the Yankee organization.

It is a very strange situation. They talk about Tampa similarly to the way somebody would talk about Washington when referring to anything to do with the US government. And you hear more about the Tampa team, in high A than you do any of their other affiliates. You rarely heard anything about Columbus, and never hear anything about Scranton now (their former and current AAA teams).

their facilities in Tampa are nicer than 1/2 the major league ballparks
