I really don't know how good Parker is but he sounds like a risky pick to me coming out of HS at #3. I would love for us to end up with Price, Wieters, or Vitters.

I share your opinion of Parker, I'd rather the Cubs go offense be it Wieters, Vitters or Moustakas.

There's seemingly no chance of it, but Moustakas is the guy I like.

For some reason I have a feeling most of us will be disappointed. I hope not but that's my feeling right now.

I really hope the Royals take Vitters off the board for us.

The questions regarding his power potential and plate patience really sour me on him.

It's pretty awesome that we're in a great spot to nab premium talent and Selig pulls his nazi routine over slot money with the MLB approval of the club's sale as leverage.

No Porcello. No Wieters. L A M E.

They'll either take Parker - who'll end up bombing in the minors - or pull someone out their collective asses (who'll also ending bombing), such as Colvin last year. In meantime Vitters, etc. will go to have successful MLB careers. I think this sounds about right

I'm just surprised they would even consider Parker after the Pawelak debacle. But I agree with you, I can see it play out exactly how you posted it.

I don't think the Cubs would have drafted Pawelek if they new he would not take care of his body and show up overweight. Plus Pawelek's fastball was always in the lower 90's and then he lost some more MPH due to his body. I don't think you'll have to worry about that with Parker. His arm is electric. BTW, Parker is who huge helper in the community and in his church I read, so you know he's a good kid.

Pawelek is not a complete bust yet. He just needs to build up his stamina, and repeat his motion, if he can do that I expect Pawelek to be pretty good next year.

They were saying the same thing about Pawelek being mormon and being a good kid. They were also saying that his arm was electric and was hitting the mid 90's. To me at least, there are similarities there that would make me shy away from taking Parker.

I would just stay away from HS pitching prospects at the top of the draft altogether, but that's just me. Seems like the consensus from what I've read on BA, ESPN.com, minorleagubaseball.com (John Sickels) points to Jarrod Parker at #3. So I'm attempting to get excited about that...but with stud positional prospects likely to be available like Wieters, Vitters and even Moutsa-whatever, can't help but feel a little disappointed already.

I'm just saying it's unfair to criticize a kid because of another kid's failures. We can go by only what we know, and we do know that Parker's coach has saved his arm and that he has clean mechanics.

And FWIW, I thought I only remembered hearing that Pawelek topped out at 95 and was at a constant 91-92 when he was drafted.

Baseball America's latest blog posts seem to think that Vitters is going to fall to #3, and if he does, that the Cubs would take him over Parker.

If Vitters is there he will be a cub. If not Parker will, its really that simple...

And the one right after that says that the Cubs and Parker were trying to work out a predraft deal for 2.35 mil.

A pre-Aranged deal really does not mean anything. What the Cubs are trying to do is say if YOu are here at 3, and Vitters went 2nd. then you are our man, if vitters is here you aint the man.

Yes, but it goes on to say if Vitters is there, that the Cubs will take him.

I don't understand the concern of possibly spending a few extra millions to draft and sign the player we need, whether it's Price, Wieters (my hope) or Vitters? The Cubs are likely to fetch $800+M from a new owner, and whoever is brought in will not be looking to run a low-budget team. Anyone else feel this way?
Yes.

The problem is that unnecessarily spending an extra several million dollars on this year's draft pick will not result in a higher sale price a few months down the road.

It'd be akin to dropping a couple grand on insulating your attic before selling your house, even though prospective buyers will either not notice or not care, and thus will not offer more for the house.

Why spend the extra money if the return is zero?
