Not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, if it is, forgive me.

From Jayson Stark via Al Yellon

... if anyone wants a bat, the Cubs have stepped up efforts to deal Jacque Jones in the wake of the decision to keep Felix Pie in the big leagues.

I think these 5 teams would all take on Jones salary, if we didnt ask for too much. If we were willing to take on salary, we may even get a solid prospect.

What could we actually get for this guy anyway?

Not much, there are several outfielders on the block, according to Stark. I think Jones will probably be here for a while, but I wouldn't mind seeing him gone.

Also, at the end of the column,

Finally, Jay Leno reported this week: "Statistics show that in a lifetime, the average person sheds 120 pints of tears. Double that if you're a Cubs fan."

I won't miss that guy when Conan takes over next year.

jones is going to out-produce pie this year...i don't know why the cubs are doing this.

Pie scores runs with his glove, nerd.

I wouldn't be against letting Cedeno go if you want to go with Theroit/Izturis and Derosa as a super sub. Theroit can play SS in a jam.

However, with Floyd here. Floyd and Murton could share RF very well I think. And Pie's glove is stellar in CF. So I'm not really against any move including Jaque or Cedeno. But not Murton.

Could we stop making the lame trade attempts of our sucky player jokes that kill every thread they show up in, that is to say half the threads on the board.

agreed

Board nazi, maybe we should just condense them all down into one thread so all u board nazis and spelling nazis can be happy

Getting back to the issue of the thread, Jones is at his highest value right now, after the game where he was a homer(?) short of the cycle. I don't think many of you guys agree with me, but I don't want to trade jones. I think that cedeno, izturis, blanco, ward, and murton/floyd is a terrible bench. I'd rather have jacque on the bench than any of the infielders, especially if we aren't going to get much for him.

The only thing I always wonder about is if it drives away some of the people that this board would like to have as members because it appears so much like talk radio trade proposals. While they are sarcastic, someone who hasn't read the board for a long time might not know that, especially when they see it multiple times in different threads.

I'd rather have Jacque than the IF's well, but only one IF on the bench is not a particularly great situation. If you demote Cedeno for example and then need another IF when one or 2 of the IF's have nagging injuries, what are you going to do? An OF has to go pretty soon, and even though Jacque adds something to this team he may just be the odd man out.

I was thinking that too. Then I realized anyone who can't pick up the sarcasm in a Jacque Jones and Cesar Izturis for ARod trade, is a moron and I don't care if they are apart of NSBB. Now if you wanna talk about the joke being overused, I can get on board with that.

So we'd stick with 4 OF's? or can ward play OF in the end of games if need be?

I'm not opposed to letting Pie have one more year in AAA and let Jones handle CF. Pie obviously needs some more work and I don't want him losing confidence at the plate because he was rushed. That said, if you can find someone to take on all of Jones's contract AND you can get a decent prospect back, then do it.

I don't think we'd have any problem with OF's. Like you said, Ward can play if need be, and one of the backup infielders can come into the game and either Theriot or DeRosa can move out to the outfield if need be late.

On sports talk radio though and several message boards I've seen, people propose trades like that all the time-and they are completely serious.
