Stupidest quote about the draft so far:

"You'd love to have a guy who can make an immediate impact," Gibbs said. "But to be quite truthful, you look at our football team, where could a player step in here right now and say: 'I'm taking over'? Where is that? That makes us feel good. I don't feel panicked that we have to take any one thing. It's hard to say that somebody would just step into any position right now."

I don't see how that's that stupid-unless you're implying that the Redskins don't have anywhere near that depth. That is the goal of every team though to be exactly what Gibbs is talking about.

I think it is a pretty dumb quote coming from the team with the number 6 pick. If you dont have many weaknesses maybe you should have won more games.

Saying that a 5-11 team can't draft a starter with the #6 pick is borderline absurd. Alan Branch, LaRon Landry, Jamaal Anderson, Gaines Adams, Amobi Okoye, and possibly even CJ could be there at that pick and any one of them could start from day 1 and provide an immediate improvement.

Ahhh...the Saturday of draft day. In years past I would get together with my high school buddies and yell and cheer as the Bears made inexplicably horrible/amazing picks, and laugh at my Packer friends for their terrible front office.

This year I'm gonna have to watch it alone.

Oh well, I'm gonna have to plan a way to wake up exactly at 12 noon so I don't have to wait through any boring build up.

I think if the Raiders want the most sure thing this year out of college, they should just draft Calvin Johnson, trade for/sign a FA QB, draft a project QB in the later rounds, and call it good.

You're preaching to the choir here.

Here's an interesting article on why the Raiders should no draft Russell. He compares Russell to Akili Smith.

What FA or realistic trading options at QB are out there? I've heard McCown from the Lions or C-Pep. Neither of those are good options, imo. I agree with you that they should have grabbed Lienart last year. If I was a Raiders fan, I wouldn't be upset if they took a QB because honestly, they really need one.

Edit: Could be totally wrong here but this is my impression from the outside looking in.

Personally, I'd like to see them take Drew Stanton in the second round but wouldn't be disappointed with Trent Edwards either.

Trent Edwards will be a better pro than Drew Stanton, imo.

No west coast bias involved, right CR?

I really don't think there is a huge difference between Quinn, Russell, Edwards and Stanton. Edwards was stuck with a bad Stanford team and Stanton was stuck with a horrible coach which really hurt their respective draft stocks.

The 49ers are finalizing a deal to send a 4th-rounder to the Seahawks for Darrell Jackson. If this goes down, it is a steal for San Fran.

If so, San Fran would be continuing their terrific offseason. Although I don't know why the Seahawks would want to send their best WR to an inter-divisional rival.

It is an odd move. Here is the story from ESPN.

Bears picking at #17 is a mistake. Should be Jacksonville.

I am usually a fan of his work, but not that one. He has errors all over the place. When I went down to the Colts pick, he picks a safety and then says that he can replace "starting safety Marlin Jackson so Jackson can move to corner". Jackson may have started several games last year because Sanders was hurt, but he is not a starting safety-Sanders and Bethea are. Not to mention, even if a safety is not drafted today or tomorrow, Jackson will be a starting corner next year.

Dunno what to tell you. He's always the most accurate. Most people say it's more due to his connections than his football acumen.

Looks like Quinn will slide to the ninth pick.

As for Quinn, the Cleveland Browns, according to team sources, will, barring a trade, go with Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas over the Ohio native with the third overall pick.

Quinn is also not expected to be selected by the Minnesota Vikings, who are committed to 2006 second-round pick Tavaris Jackson. Quinn is expected to be on the board at the ninth pick when the quarterback-needy Miami Dolphins are on the clock.
