Personally, I like making up line-ups. Because it's fun. I'd go with:

1. Theriot, SS

2. Murton, RF

3. Lee, 1B

4. Soriano, LF

5. Ramirez, 3B

6. Barrett, C

7. DeRosa, 2B

8. Pie, CF

9. Pitcher

This is the line up I want to see, everyday!

I prefer to have Ramirez 4th, as he's more of a threat to get on base than Soriano.

yep, makes a lot more sense to have Ramirez 4th. Soriano can run more too out of the 5-hole, theoretically.

Shouldn't Lou ask Soriano to bat in the middle of the order instead of leading off. Theriot, Murton, Lee, ARam, Soriano, Barrett, Derosa, Pie sounds like the best possible lineup in terms of producing runs. Batting Floyd or Barrett on occasion wouldn't hurt the lineup. I know that the suggested lineup is really right-handed, but good hitters are good hitters irregardless of which side of the plate in which they stand.

Sorry if it makes me an ass, but this is not a word. My biggest pet peeve.

It's also a double negative ....but I'd have to go with the limp handshake as my biggest pet peeve...

there are 285,000 words in the English language, if we use this enough it will become one.

It actually is a word according to the Miriam-Webster dictionary website. A somewhat frowned upon word, but a recognized one.

On topic, I can't see Soriano moving down. If he did, I would probably put Theriot/Lee at the top.

We all know Soriano is not moving out of the leadoff spot so this is what I think would be fine:

Soriano RF

Theriot SS

Lee 1B

ARam 3B

Murton LF

Barrett C

DeRosa 2B

Pie CF

PITCHER

Kind of a "spin off" of this...since there are a lot of people who think that "order" doesn't matter...and since Soriano seems dead set on the "leadoff" spot...how bout we do something a little "less traditional" with our #3 hole.

Leave Soriano in the 1 hole...he gets to lead off still...power...speed...even if its a Low OBP...then start off with our more "traditional" leadoff candidates...theriot, followed by Murton, our better 2 hole guy...and construct the line up from there on

Soriano

Theriot

Murton

Lee

Ramirez

Barrett

Derosa

Pie

It lets Soriano lead off yet still gives us the best chance of having guys on in front of our other boppers.

We want lee, aram to get as many AB as possible. They are locked in the 3-4 spots.

I know that's the theory, but how many fewer at bats, over the course of a game/year does the 5 guy get than the 4 guy?

Theoretically, in this situation they'd get more at bats with guys on base, which solves our biggest problem...just saying "your best hitters only bat 3-4" seems to be like saying "you need a fast guy to lead off"...

I believe I heard somewhere that it is about 20-25 bats per spot over the course of a season.

So in this Theory, Ramirez would get 20-25 fewer at bats over the course of a year...but those at bats he did get (thoretically) would be more likely to have men on base...so if he got 570 at bats, with more men on base...as opposed to 594 (last years #) with fewer men on base...we could actually come out ahead... (Lee got 594 ABs 2 years ago, so you'd figure his at bats would actually stay pretty close to the same)
