I took given the ball a ride to be a euphemism for hitting a homerun. The fact is he hasn't hit a homerun. If people want to take solace in the fact that he can't muscle the ball through the wind when others have, go right ahead. But I'm concerned about the lack of power. This lineup isn't good enough to have Derrek just occasionally poke one out.

 

I don't care whether others are able to do it. I don't need Derrek to be able to hit homeruns farther than others, I just need him to be able to hit them. And as we get into summer, and the wind is blowing out more than it's blowing in, the early "homers the wind knocked down" gives me some confidence that he'll be able to hit them out at that point.

 

Only some confidence though. Like you, I'd like to see improvement. Fast.
