the ghost of christmas past:

from the game thread dated 4/30/06

and another walk.

what an awful outing by Z.

Holy crap. 6-0? Wow, what a lousy outting from our ace when we needed him to step up and pitch deep.

When does Maddux, our ACE, pitch again?

Zambrano has looked like a #4 starter at best thus far this season.

Koskie doubles in two more. Now it's 6-0. Zambrano has lost it.

Zambrano is a really bad pitcher these days

It's 3-0.

miller walks.

3BB, 3 2B this inning. WTH?

Zamnbrano has been crap all year.

I miss 2004 Z. And 2005 Z.

Zambrano is just a terrible pitcher right now. Larry has ruined another one.

This isn't comforting.

How is it not? Z sucked last April, and then completely manhandled the National League for the next two months. He's off to a bad start this year as well, so let's hope he starts dominating soon.

Hmmmmm. Now Z appears to be firing strikes.

That was short-lived. Maybe he was just getting warmed up, and now he's back to his old self again.

i don't care what you think, i was posting it for everyone else.

That's fine, no need to be nasty. It's still not comforting that he constantly sucks to start the season.

Hmmmmm. Now Z appears to be firing strikes. I wonder if someone had a little chat with him while the Cubs were batting?

Nope. :(

Yeah. I spoke too soon. I started typing that post when it was 0-2 on Johnson. ](*,)

Maybe Z needs his blue alt to pitch well.

Good theory. Nice one Mcdunnough. :?

I hope you're kidding

He's either injured or way too superstitious.

or a slow starter

I'd like someone to show me the #'s where he's been THIS bad, in april.

He had a 3.97 ERA after his third game last year, I do believe.

4.86

You're right. It was 3.97 after 4 starts, 4.86 after three.

Top excuses for Zambrano sucking so far...

Slow starter.

The weather.

Doesn't mesh with Lou.

Contract uncertainty.

Not enough Blanco.

Road grays.

Internet withdrawal.

Come up with your own!

All those Dusty innings have caught up with him, I think.

If that ends up being the case, let me assure you that Dusty will move to the top of my Most-Hated List for trying his hardest to ruin every pitcher who put on a Cubs uniform during his tenure.

Cripes, he should have been fired after the Chad Fox debacle. That was inexcuseable.

Maybe I missed something with Fox. The guy blew out his arm. I think that had a lot more to do with the rest of his career than his brief stint with the Cubs.

He was worked way too often. The day he blew out his arm was the first time he had pitched on back-to-back days. It doesn't take a genius to see that he shouldn't have been pitching then after rehabbing his arm. (or whatever it was that was wrong with him)

I'll let another Cubs site explain this:

Fox was coming off an injury-filled 2004 during which he had thrown only 10 2/3 innings with the Marlins. So what does Dusty do? Pitches Fox five times in a week from April 11 to April 17, including the final three days in a row. Dusty pitched Fox on April 24 and tried to bring him back the next day against Cincinnati. On the TWENTY-FIFTH pitch Fox threw in a 10-3 Cubs blowout, Fox’s right arm went flying toward the Cubs dugout, and his career was over.
