why didn't Quade send Soriano on Riot's single??

Cause we had no outs and 3,4,5 coming up.

it was dumb. Soriano is fast enough to score

He would have been out by 20 feet. The ball was hit too hard.

No he would't have. The Reds were conceeding the run, Freel didn't even throw to the plate. The Reds announcers said the same thing; they were surprised he didn't score.

dude, you're wrong. just move on.

No I'm not. Even the Reds guys were surprised he didn't score.

In a game where runs are at a premium he should have been sent.

Even the Reds guys? If an announcer says it then it must be true.

If runs were at a premium wouldn't the strategy be to not run into a potential out at home plate with no outs?

The rule of thumb that 3rd base coaches uses is this: If the ball gets to the OFer (in this case the CFer) before the runner even gets to third you hold the runner up. In this case Soriano was a good 3 steps away from 3rd when the ball got to Freel. Holding Soriano up there was the good call.

Yeah, I don't think you can fault Quade for not wanting to risk a baserunner on third with nobody out and the best hitters in the lineup at bat.

none of those guys have gotten a hit today.

So? You still don't risk a baserunner on third in that situation.

Freel had the ball by the time Soriano made it to third. If the throw home was close, Soriano is out by at least 10 feet.

Freel was conceeding the run--trying to keep Theriot at 1B by throwing into 2B.

The reason why Freel didn't throw home (and I have TiVO'd right now) is that he saw Soriano being held at 3rd. So why throw the ball home when you don't have to? So you are partially right, he didn't throw home, because he wanted to keep Theriot at first, but he also didn't throw home, because he Soriano pulling up at third.

You mean the cutoff man?

And where Jeff Samardzija?!

Huh? What does Samardzija have to do with anything?

Brady Quinn sang the stretch with some members of his Notre Dame team.

The same reds guy who yesterday said he loved how good Marty Barret was for the cubs.

I'm going to say it again, but I can't freakin stand the guest conductor thing. They need to do away with this immediately.

Also, Cubs should stop swinging at every pitch.
