When I get to be king, there will be no more exclusive TV contracts !!

It isn't even exclusive. If I have the service I should get the damn game. What a bunch of crap. I get the damn White Sox though.

Looks like Lou didn't learn anything from the last five innings yesterday.

Everyone give up on the pipe dream that Murton is gonna get fair amounts of playing time. It isn't going to happen. This team(organization) doesn't value him.

Copied from the "Baseball Discussions" topic:

Why must MLB decide what's good for fans by forcing them to only watch their local teams every Saturday?

The notion that it "protects" the local team from losing customers in their territory is a fallacy up there with the Cubs losing an extra home game in the 1984 playoffs. Blackouts have never been proven to maintain the same number of local fans, let alone increase the fan base. And guess what...they never will!!!!

What does that mean exactly?

Jones in the three spot and no Murton yet again.

It wasn't a mistake though yesterday. Jones had 2 hits from the 3 spot, and Floyd had 2 hits as well.

Now-I wanted Murton to play yesterday because of his numbers against Harang. If you look at their numbers against Arroyo though, it was pretty obvious that Floyd was going to play-he had a hit and 2 balls hit hard last week when the Cubs played the Reds against Arroyo.

Also, the team still has faced a much smaller sample of left-handers than they really should have so far (based on last year's numbers, they should have faced 2 more left-handers so far than they actually have). If Murton continues to even get 33% of the starts against right-handers like he has so far, he will play more than Floyd will on the season when the number of left-handers evens themselves out.

He looks like first half '06 Murton right now, hitting little dinkers in the IF and striking out a lot. He looks lost. I don't think he has an XBH hit yet. It's only been 15 AB, but he's looked pitiful at the plate.

You don't just get handed a position as a youngster unless you're a top prospect. Murton's going to have to take it away from someone, and if he can't do that against the likes of 87 year old Cliff Floyd, then he doesn't deserve a starting job.

If true, then trade him. I am a Cubs fan first, but I am also a big Matt Murton fan and want to see him prosper somewhere..

I thought the last two years he earned that right. I guess not.

he did take it away from someone.

when he was starting at the end of last year.

shouldn't floyd have to take it from him?

Yep this is typical cub crap. Like when Corey had to earn at bats from Damon Buford. Or when we had to let Fred McGriff get his 30 homers even at Choi's expense. But, at least this year they wrapped the turd up by letting us all think Murton was going to play by giving him all the Spring ABs and the opening day start.

Is it the Cubs fault Patterson and Choi became "turds"? murton will be fine. I doubt this was apremeditated plan to play him in ST and opening day.

First off, this is not a straight platoon like everyone feared. That alone proves they value Murton that they would bench a guy like Floyd against a right-handed pitcher where he has been so good over his career.

Second, your other situations are not great analogies. Buford was not a good ballplayer when Patterson was trying to take at-bats away. The McGriff/Choi situation happened in September to a team that was hopelessly out of the race-if they had been in the race, there would have been no problems with McGriff starting everyday because he was still having a very good season that year.

This is a team who wants to put out their best lineup everyday. Against a decent amount of right-handers, that might mean Cliff Floyd plays, because he has been so great against right-handed pitching over the years. Now, like I said I would have put Murton in against Harang and have a 5-5 start split so far instead of 6-4. The fact that it's only 6-4 when they have faced one left-hander is telling though-they want to get Murton at-bats, even if it has to come against right-handers. Murton will end up with more PA's than Floyd at the end of the year.

I don't think that Patterson is that bad, better than any other position player we have produced in about a decade. Choi flopped, it happened. Couldn't we have let him play when we 30 games out instead of letting a one year rental hit 30 homers. The same one year rental who really never wanted to come to our team.

This lineup scored 5 runs yesterday. Without the bone-headed pitching (specifically walks), they would have won.
