So is he still going to donate 50 grand to Jada Lee for every home run he hits on another team?

Actually, I'm sure he would. It's for a great cause, I don't think what team he is playing for will have any effect on his and Lee's relationship.

Let's face facts. He's a catcher on the wrong side of 30 in the final year of his contract. With his bat there's gotta be a taker for him. It just doesn't make sense to keep him.

With the offensive moves that the Cubs have made, there's no need for his bat with his terrible defense. We may just have a guy better than him as it is. Look at the Cardinals. Yadier Molina can't hit, but look at the crappy pitchers who have success in St Louis. Coincidence? Of course not. Michael Barrett needs to go. We can give the job to say Jake Fox who homered twice today and is cheap. Sure he may not be as good as Barrett today, but if we replace Barrett with Fox and trade Barrett for someone good it's a great move. Besides Barrett's glove sucks.

No fair, you read the post

And for those who don't know what this is about and are seriously over-reacting, you might want to check out this post and the one below it.

I'd trade Barrett for the right price. But that price would have to include a serviceable catcher in return, and I don't know who that might be.

If this were a joke it would have said,"What do you do with an elephant with 3 balls?"

Huh? Elephants have 3 balls?!

Barrett is a stud with the bat. His overblown defensive problems are more than offset by what he brings to the table on offense.

I wouldn't call his defensive problems overblown. He is pretty terrible behind the plate. Fortunately, his offensive production exceeds any defensive liability.

Barrett is going to break the record for allowing the most passed balls by a catcher in a season this year.

With a whopping 1 he's off to a hot start.

Grady Sizemore is also going to more than double the single season HR record.

EDIT: 2. Gameday was wrong about today's apparently.

"Completely false."

I believe he has two.

I don't know what happened on the one today, he just missed it and Tony Jr. was alert.

With the way Eyre was pitching, it didn't matter. It was either right down the middle or in the dirt today.

Beat ya.

That puts him on pace for around 42 or so, I bet that'll shatter the record unless we replace him with a pitchback.

That was one of the few located pitches Eyre threw the whole inning and Barrett dropped it.

Not if all their games keep getting postponed. :D

Barett's not going anywhere this season, nor should he. I wanted a rebuilding year in which Barrett and Z were traded for players who could help in 2008, but it's way too late for that, thanks to Hendry's spending spree. Keeping Barret is the best option for a team that's built to win now.

Barrett as stated he feels that he owes the Cubs because they gave him a shot out of Montreal. He had a terrible year behind the plate and yet the Cubs traded for him anyway and he has done nothing but produce and produce well offensively. With his experience with the pitchers and being one of the best hitting catchers in the leauge I would rather have him play this whole year out and see what he asks from this team. I have no doubt he will give the Cubs a hometown discount at around 3 years. From the way he looks he will be able to hit well for another 3 years while providing the same non spectacular defense that is not that big of a liability.

Yeah. I think Barrett was shocked he got a pitch that wasn't in the dirt.

Yes, i know it was a wild pitch...but again today with Howry right before the homer wasnt even close again.

If Hendry is going to insist on these type of setup guys, then we need to have a catcher that is going to give us a chance in the late innings. Over and over and over again...Wuertz, Howry, Ohman, etc are just missing outside and low with hard sliders. Going to lose a lot of ball games this year if we dont get it figured out.
