Tonight will be the night.

I have no grudge against Sammy, but I really don't want to see him hit it against the Cubs. I guess if the Cubs are blowing the Rangers out then I it wouldn't bother me. But, that seems unlikely with this team.

Vance,

Where are your seats?

Sec 218 tonight, 233 on Wed, and row 2 of 15 on Thurs.

You know what, I hope he hits it in a blowout.

I don't want Sammy hitting 600 in a close game.

Indeed. Tonight was a great night for Sammy to strike out three times in lieu of hitting #600.

Plus, we all know it's going to be a meaningless HR anyway...

Tonight I was extremely ambivalent. I wanted to see him hit 600, but each time he came to the plate, a homerun would have been a game changing hit.

Of course, at one point I felt if the game went long enough, Kinsler might hit his 600th.

I'm not able to watch the game (I'm on vacation, and the hotel I'm currently staying at doesn't have WGN  ). I'm following along with Gameday, however, and saw Sosa hit #600. Since it's looking like the Cubs would lose anyway I can be happy for Sammy.

It's as good a time as any for Sammy to hit it. I doubt this game had any chance of being close again, so Congrats to Sammy.

I hope the Cubs take an ad out in a Texas paper to congratulate him, sorta like what Atl did for Maddux on his 300th, only do it well.

You just knew Sosa would hit #600 tonight. Against the Cubs. The pitcher? Jason Marquis, who shouldn't be wearing #21, but is. Something karmic there, I think.

Fixed!

No doubt.

I could've made this call in February and gotten rich. Of course he had to hit it off us and off a pitcher wearing his number to boot.

I got really sad watching the highlights. That should've been Wrigley giving Sammy curtain calls, and I'm almost positive there would've been more than 2.

Yea, I kinda thought that too. At least it's apparent to Sammy and everyone else that there were more Cubs fans making more noise for each of the first two games of the series. I'm glad he made it, and I'm glad Cubs fans were there.

good for him, I guess, but it's a pretty empty accomplishment, especially since he's doing it on a horrible team and only returned to baseball to reach this "milestone". Doesn't change how I felt about him in his glory days, nor does it feel how I feel about him now

What does him being on a horrible team have to do with whether or not he can still hit HR's?

is it entirely out of the question that sammy came back because he had something to prove, and he genuinely likes playing baseball?

I think it is absolutely possible, but there will always be people (not suggesting Derwood necessarily) who look to denigrate the motives of other people.
