Yeah, this is new, along with the TBS deal.

What TBS deal?

They are going to be broadcasting non-Braves games, including some playoff games I believe.

I think they will have games every Sunday afternoon, the Division Series and the NLCS.

Wikipedia[/url]"]Under an agreement signed on July 11, 2006, TBS earned exclusive rights to all Division Series playoff games, as well as rights to the All-Star Selection Show held in late June or early July, beginning in 2007. A national Sunday afternoon baseball package is also part of the deal, starting in 2008. The Sunday games will not be exclusive to TBS and will be blacked out in local markets (an alternate game is currently scheduled to be offered). TBS does not currently have a high-definition feed, and has not announced plans to create one, but the creation of one seems likely in the near future.

TBS will also be able to air any tie-breaker games for divisional or wild card championships. Should multiple tie-breaking games be played, or if multiple Division Series game are scheduled at the same time, those additional games would air on TBS’ sister station, TNT. This part of the deal started immediately, with possible 2006 tiebreakers on TBS, although there were none. This means that the first telecast from TBS' new baseball package will be the 2007 All-Star Selection Show.

Naturally for those who don't have cable in Chicago the games will be aired on regular tv correct? No HD feed, are you kidding me?

Well they have six months to get an HD feed...I'd be shocked if they don't have one by October.

News flash most people in this country dont have or care about HD. The percentage of people who are capable of watching anything in HD is still very small and will continue to be so until HD tvs and equipment are as affoardable as a regular television and HD programing does cost extra.

Oh, I don't have HD either, home or school. But it's obviously a big deal to those who have the capability.

Im sure it is, but its going to be a while before stations begin to really make it a priority.

Not me. I have it, but I don't get my panties in a wad if a program is non-HD. I do enjoy the HD programming, but it's not the end of the world when it's not available.

I believe Fox has always done early games like this season, but then they tend to drop off the face of the earth until after the all-star game because they're going to do Nascar or something else between now and then. . .

It's been a priority for most stations of significance for a very long time.

I would say it is more of a strong consideration than a priority. There are still a lot of places you can't get an HD signal w/o DirecTV, and even then the list of HD channels is far from expansive. It is true that the majority of people still don't have HDTV, so it's a a stretch to say HDTV is a priority when the market is largely SDTV.

If no networks broadcasted in HD tomorrow, only a small segment of TV viewers would be upset about it. As soon as the price of equipment drops and the HD market increases, then you will see it become a real priority.

I think the biggest reason Fox has baseball on Saturday afternoons now is that ESPN has taken over the Busch Series for NASCAR on Saturdays and Fox is only doing the Cup races on Sunday.

Whereas in the past Fox did both until mid-season and then NBC took over the race schedule. Thus allowing Saturday baseball games that include the Yankees, Mets or Red Sox.

Pretty sure Fox showed a Red Sox/Yankees game last year or two years ago then went offline until June, but that was "special"

The government made digital broadcasting a huge priority by forcing stations across the country to upgrade facilities at considerable expense. DBS and cable proividers have also had their worlds turned upside down in a rush to accomodate HD broadcasts.

Beancounters across the country wish it was a "strong consideration."

Well the Comcast here doesn't even offer HD programming, as well as a number of other places. And even with DirecTV, the number of HD channels is relatively low compared to the number of regular stations.

And I hate to disappoint you, but I am not a "beancounter". I sincerely wish it HD was a priority, but its not. I have a very expensive HD behemoth in my living room that is woefully underutilized because HD is not a priority.

If it were a priority, most channels would be HD, but they're not. And it's not like HD is so new no one has had time to implement changes yet. The demand is just not enough yet to justify wholesale changes.

I live in a mountain town, but it is hardly the boonies, and there is a lot of big money here who can't get dish because of the terrain. When I got my HDTV and asked the boss man at my local Comcast office why I couldn't get HD progrmming, he told me that the higher ups told him that they believed the demand for HD was not enough to justify the cost of upgrading the old equipment/lines.

I am currently try to persuade my landlord to allow me to put a dish on the house, but as I said, DirecTV's HD lineup is pretty limited relative to the total number of stations.

I wish HD was more than a strong consideration, but it's not.

I didn't say you were a beancounter; I was merely pointing out the piles of cash spent on HD infrastructure upgrades. Again, by government decree or otherwise, it's a huge priority.

DirecTV is launching a whole new array of satellites just to bring a proper HD lineup into play. I strongly suggest that you ditch your lame cable outfit.

If the hills are in the way, move. I would.

You're not alone. I actually get NOTHING in HD right now because I don't want to pay $200 for the receiver (I needs me the DVR too) and another $10 a month to maybe watch the little bit that DirecTV has to offer.

Much like the Iranian population wanting to rise up against their primitive leadership, I've heard about all these upgrades for quite some time, but there is still a huge lack of programming. I recently switched back to directv after they apologized for screwing up so much and driving me to cable, and I'm hoping for more. But so far it's extremely limited.

I'm looking forward to the additional HD on the way, but honestly, besides Extra Innings and Battlestar Galactica first-run eps, there's very little stuff I like that's not available in HD, and those two will be fixed next year.
