  1. I thought for sure this topic would have already set off a firestorm! http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/2084783,CST-SPT-bestcub05.article
  2. 43, new stadium
  3. He was a great guy and a great Cub (at the time). I'll remember him fondly as one of my favorite lefties in that era. . .Rick Monday, Bobby Murcer and Bill Buckner (oh, and Larry Biittner). I didn't have much to look up to during that time.
  4. This is the team Dusty Baker says he's wanted. "My whole career I always yearned for a team full of kids so I could teach them how to play," says Baker, in his 15th season as a National League manager, his first with the Cincinnati Reds.
  5. The big game is over The Illini and SIU suck this year The Bulls suck The Bears are done Super Tuesday is tomorrow . . . can we get back to what's really important now? MLB, of course!! :yahoo:
  6. My question is: who the hell voted for Rod Beck, Travis Fryman and Robb Nenn (2 votes each); Shawon Dunston, Chuck Finley, David Justice, Chuck Knoblauch and Todd Stottlemyre (1 vote each)? What a friggin' waste of a vote (kinda like voting for Dennis Kucinich, but that's another story altogether). ](*,)
  7. I remember a couple of years ago when Kerry Wood was first having injury "issues." The talk was that he should consult with Roger Clemens and gain from his work ethic and training regimen. That was supposed to turn him around. :-k

  9. David Wells :-k
  10. Billy was fired mid season and Bob Lemon was hired to take over. This will inevitably be mentioned in the sequel to "THE BRONX IS BURNING!"
  11. I love the fact that this guy wears his stirrup socks the way they should be worn and that his pant legs are not down below his shoe level!! Has his old man made that impression on him??? =D>
  12. Form today's Post-Dispatch: "But on Tuesday, sources close to the investigation told the Post-Dispatch that a small tin holding a small amount of marijuana had been recovered from the wreckage. A source with the Cardinals said the team had been made aware of the finding on Monday night." This is what I find pretty interesting in light of Tony LaRussa's implied threat to the media about swinging the fungo bat the other day. He KNEW about this when he was out there speaking to his team. He KNEW this would come out and he still tried to cover up and keep the vultures of the media away from his players. What an idiot! :pukel: pukel
  13. He also retired relatively early due to arthritis (lost to the Orioles in the '66 WS). . . has he had enough time to recover from this condition??? Does that mean there's hope that Prior/Wood can come back given enough time?
  14. I couldn't agree more with this post! A poor decision maker when it came to his pitchers . . . that was him! Although, the Cubs weren't going to beat the Giants that year ('89) and then they wouldn't have beaten LaRussa's A's either. I go back to Durocher's last year. Not much to be proud of there (with the exception of Jim Frey).
  15. Then why EVER use a backup catcher? If not in a 12-1 blow-out, when? Should we wait until Barrett strains his back or something? What happens then?
