The superstation is showing an hour of America's Funniest Home Videos, an hour of Home Improvement, and an hour of Becker during the game. Bring back the 150 games on WGN deal please.

Please.

That's basically the lineup for WGN Superstation 24 hours a day, seven days a week

The Cubs cant show a 150 game schedule on WGN per MLB rules. Its the Anti-Super Station Rule. It was aimed At The Braves, Cubs and Yanks as a way to hamstring the owners who also had a TV channel as part of the empire.

Once the Cubs sale WGN could broadcast 150 games if they wanted. However the loss the Cubs have taken on the TV deal, (a tax thing), would mean that WGN would have to pony up real fees for Cubs games. You could see an owner who miscalculates and then those of us not in Chicago lose all Cubs games outside the TBS/FOX/ESPN games. Which at that point I would probably go dish.

for those people who grew up cubs fans because they could watch them on tv, it will mean that you are probably the last of your kind. the cubs stand to lose a lot of money over the next few decades due to the fact that there will simply be fewer cubs fans around the country buying their stuff.

If Arroyo gets into a rythem, this game's over. He completely owned us last year.

Well, to be fair to us, Rusch pitched at least 2 of those games. Arroyo single-handedly destroyed Glendon.

Is there going to be a 40-minute pre-game? My Dish shows the broadcast starting at 5:30.

I have DISH and can't find the game. What channel?

WGN programming as a whole, outside sports coverage, is a complete joke. They show crap movies, crap sitcoms, and crap series. I can't fathom the idiots that have to be behind those choices in lieu of Cubs, Bulls, and (shudder) White Sox games. How do they get anyone to watch that channel???

QFT, except that you forgot world's funniest (insert noun here)

You all are lucky. Living in cardinal country you only get to see the redbirds. No WGN or Comcast for me. The only time I get to see the Cubs is when they play the cardinals. And then I have to listen to Dan McLaughlin and Al Hrabosky for 3 hours talk about how God doesn't ever want the cardinals to lose.

No MLB Extra Innings?

Isn't that a "wonderful" way to spend the evening. I at least do get WGN and Fox Sports Southwest (Rangers and Astros) with Cox Cable.

Game Notes.

On Monday, the Cubs opened their 132nd National League season with a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Reds … Chicago’s bullpen (Neal Cotts, Michael Wuertz and Will Ohman) tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.

The loss snapped a five-game Opening Day winning streak … Chicago is 73-57-2 all-time on Opening Day, including a 44-37 mark on the road.

The Cubs will be looking to win their second National League Central Division title this season and avoid their first back-to-back-to-back losing seasons since 1990 (77-85), 1991 (77-83) and 1992 (78-84).

Aramis Ramirez’ 12 career home runs at the Great American Ball Park are tied for the most of any Reds opponent … Houston’s Lance Berkman also has 12 homers … a complete list can be found on page 440 in the Reds’ award-winning media guide.

Ramirez is a .331 (39-for-118) hitter in 29 games at the Great American Ball Park.

The 12 long balls at the Great American Ball Park are his second-highest total for any ballpark he hasn’t called home … the third baseman has 13 homers at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.

The Cubs are looking to snap a five-game losing streak in contests started by Bronson Arroyo – that dates back to the start of last season.

Arroyo went 4-0 in five starts against Chicago in 2006, posting a 1.01 ERA (4 ER/35.2 IP) while limiting the Cubs to a .191 batting average.

The Cubs have gone 4-6 in games started by Arroyo … the last time Chicago won a game in which Arroyo started was June 10, 2005, when the Cubs beat the Red Sox, 14-6, at home.

A few more tidbits from the game notes:

The Cubs, who tonight play their first night game of the season, have just two night contests over their first 14 games through April 17 … Chicago will play under the lights at home against San Diego April 16.

Chicago’s first 12 games of the season are against NL Central opponents … overall, 24 of the team’s first 28 games are against their own division

The Cubs and Reds will meet 18 times this season … after this current three-game set, the two clubs will meet at Wrigley Field, April 13-15 … that’s their last meeting until late July, when the Cubs return to the Great American Ball Park, July 27-29.

THIS DATE IN HISTORY

2003 – Sammy Sosa becomes the 18th player in ML history to reach 500 home runs … he accomplishes the feat in a 10-9 loss at Cincinnati.

1994 - Cubs Outfielder Tuffy Rhodes becomes the first NL player to hit three homers on Opening Day when he connects off Doc Gooden at Wrigley Field.

Ahh, I remember getting quite excited about Tuffy after that game.

Whoops.
