This is depressing.

your guys played a heck of a game. I'd be proud if my school played that hard against KU. Oh wait, my school beat KU. But my team didnt' make it to the tourney, so you're still in better shape.

If your team didn't make the routny you shouldn't be talking about them in the tourny thread. A bit hypocritical no?

oh shut up

Nice. Yet the mods tell the Illinois and Indiana fans to let it go. But you can take a shot at us, then attack a poster by telling them to shut up.

How about both of you stop posting in this thread for a while?

All Raisin is saying is that KU had more opportunities to make mistakes and still win because of the referees. Both teams could have minimized their mistakes and played better, sure. However, they played pretty equally and made about the same number of mistakes-the difference in the score could certainly be attributed to a few calls by the referees. SIU still had their opportunities to try to make up that disadvantage, but they shouldn't have been put at that disadvantage to begin with.

KU definitely caught some breaks. It happens in every game. Does it suck for SIU? Yeah. But that's how sports work.

That's how sports works, but that doesn't mean the refs shouldn't be called on it.

Well if UCLA wins I am sure that situation will reverse in the next round. It shouldn't, but probably will.

Exactly-by a day or two from now, it won't matter-but it was pertinent to a game thread like this is because it affected the game.

Edit: BTW, I'm not saying that Kansas didn't deserve to win-they definitely could have won even if those calls were reversed-it's just not known for sure which way it would go.

if you can't tell the difference between one off the cuff remark about my school (in a post that was praising SIU) and your 100's of posts about IU and UofI (in several threads) I don't know what to tell you

I agree. Refs should be held accountable for mistakes. And I don't blame any SIU fan for being PO'd. We've all been on both ends of the stick here. I'm just glad I'm on the good end for once.

You saying UCLA will get the calls over KU? I haven't watched enough UCLA to know if they're one of those teams (a la Duke), but I've never thought they were the overwhelming beneficiary of calls.

No I don't think they do, but the game is so close to their campus. I would imagine it will play a factor. I think the pecking order usually goes Duke, Kansas, everyone else.

Yeah, I didn't have a strong preference. The upset would have been great but my shredded bracket has Kansas advancing so it didn't really matter to me.

I just think refs should be called on blatantly bad calls - unless they're against Florida.

This is depressing.

I know you don't want to hear it, but IMO, you were no worse than the 3rd best team we played this year. Probably the second best. (ahead of aTm, behind Florida.) That's a fun team to watch, unless your team is playing them.

Great game.

I appreciate it.

I just feel like crap right now. The best season in our history, a game we easily should've won, and we're done. The last time I felt like this was when Arenas hit that shot at the buzzer to beat the Bulls a few years ago. Ugh...

I thought that they were definitely the beneficiary of a lot of calls in the last 6 minutes last game, and when I talked to 4 fans who went to the game who are more Pac-10 fans than anything they agreed with me, but I have no idea is that's something that happens on a routine basis or not. Of course, watch out for Ben Howland being the 6th defender on an inbounds play :D

I've never thought KU was the regular beneficiary of calls, but I might be a bit biased. I'd put UNC ahead of them, though.

That most recent possession in the aTm game was insane.

Exactly what I was going for, thanks.
