You may think it sucks, thanks for the input. Excuse me while I go order my baseball package. Enjoy taking you stance.

Selfishness is becoming the norm in this country. It's quite sad.

One day when your car is sitting on the side of the road all broken down, someone will drive by without stopping and say, "should have bought a car that runs. Enjoy your walk, dude."

Same attitude. Different day.

Should have bought a TV service that works.

I am missing your point. Why does it make you feel better or worse if the company you are with has the exclusive rights or not? How does DirectTV having the rights and cable and DishNetwork not having them make your life any better?

If Verizon was making an exclusive deal to carry EI and I was still getting it I would not be getting any joy out of other people now being forced to switch to Verizon or not get EI. Why would you want other Cubs fans to not be able to see the games unless they switch to DirectTV? Is there now one thing in your life you have been a success at - you picked the right broadcast provider and all the other losers that went with cable or DishNetwork now have to switch or be SOL?

Good for you - your mother must be so proud.

I have no rooting interest for Directv to be the sole provider. ALthough I do hear there will be a greater HD push. My commentary was simply on those who continue to complain about this.

You seem a little bitter though. One thing in my life? Mother proud? LOL.

I know you are, but what am I.

I think my compassion comment went right over his/her head. I'm clueless why someone would come in here and toot their own horn about their good fortune and spit in the face of the misfortunes of others.

Personally, I would feel compassion for any baseball fan (not just Cub fans) that was put in this position. But, I'm seeing the selfish attitude more and more, and I don't like it at all.

His original post wasn't even directed at me. It just shocked me that someone would talk down to others like that.

It wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you are tired of listening to people complain about this, that you could simply NOT OPEN THE THREAD.

Regardless of what happens, DirecTV WILL have MLB.EI. Fact! There, your services in this thread are no longer needed. But, thanks for playing.

Thread says breaking news, makes sense I would open it.

has anybody actually paid for and received EI from their cable co? if so thats a lot of refunds.

From what I gathered from my cable company, they weren't offering it up until this got settled. I called at the beginning of February and they told me to call back after Feb 15th. I called after Feb 15th and that's when they said that we would have to wait until everthing got settled.

If you do order MLBTV and need help transferring it to your TV via the S-Cable, I'll give you the instructions.

That would be awesome, because I'll probably need help. How long do they make S-Cables? Where my lap top is stationed is probably at least 15 feet from where the TV sits.

Of course, I am still holding out hope that my cable company picks up MLB EI.

I do like the sound of (most if not all) MLB games in HD by 2008. That may be enough to make me switch....

Press Release!

HD = da bomb diggity

No doubt and I currently have it with Time Warner. The frustrating thing about HD right now in regards to the EI package is that no games are offered in HD.

The more HD I can watch...the happier I am, especially if it is the Cubbies!

huh? I thought EI was promising at least 2 games per week per team in HD this year?

Could be, I was referencing last season when the only HD games I watched from my provider was on ESPN, FSNHD and several on INHD. No games on my EI packaged carried HD broadcasts.

I like the fact that in 2009 there will be "The Baseball Network", which sounds like it will be a 24/7 baseball network.

Also, what's the big deal with everyone hating on DirecTV? Are there lower price alternatives in everyones area that provide the same services?

You may think it sucks, thanks for the input. Excuse me while I go order my baseball package. Enjoy taking you stance.

I will be switching to DirecTV if DishNetwork doesn't drop the cash to get the package. I hate to do it, but that's how I roll. I want the EI package.

Brilliant posting, gentlemen.

No one is hating on DirecTV.

I have my business phone, home phone, email address, internet service and tv's through my cable company. I get a nice sized discount by having the 3 way package. Why should I have to give up any or all of that?

Life is full of choices. You can't always have your cake and eat it too.

I still don't like the exclusivity, but individual inconvenience isn't why.

I have a 50' RCA/S-Vid Cable i got off eBay for $30 for just that reason a few yrs ago. But now that I have a HDTV, I just picked up a HDMI-DVI cable to run from the PC to the TV.

DIRECTV will expand the MLB EXTRA INNINGS options to include a game mosaic channel, a Strike Zone Channel that takes viewers to live cut-ins of MLB games in progress at key points; detailed player and team stats, real-time scores and live updates from other games; and other innovations that complement the sport of baseball, entertain viewers and provide fans with a great entertainment value. Beginning in 2008, DIRECTV will provide most, if not all, of the package in High Definition.

This is the crux of it for me. DirecTV just does a much better job of this than cable (or Dish for that matter). They'll add extras, put more games on in HD, innovate the package -- something cable just never does.

I'd like to use my HDTV as much as possible. If DirecTV offers more HD programming, I'm definitely purchasing this package. Too bad cable does not have the capacity yet to offer more HD channels. Perhaps some of you who are angry could write your cable company and ask them politely to get off their arse. The rest of the world is moving forward, with or without cable.

I'll probably do likewise as far as picking up a HDMI-DVI cable. Before I ordered the package, I wanted to see how I'd like it with the S-Cable.

BBB, S-Cables of greater than 15 ft. are pretty common.

From your article: DirecTV uses statistics that only 5,000 of the 500,000 subscriptions would not have access to DirecTV. That's all well and good. Did they factor in the number of people prohibited by lease agreements , neighborhood associations, or simply access to the proper direction in the sky from installing a dish and/or utilizing it? Just for the sake of argument let's assume that 45,000 of those households fall into at least 1 of those 3 categories. According to their published statements DirecTV claimed to have 230,000 of the 500,000 subscribers already.

At $100mil/year assuming they get ALL of the previous subscribers, that comes down to $222 per household in fees and advertising revenue, just to break even. Not factoring in their costs in installing systems in each home who switches, their custom programming on the extra innings package, etc. And they are convinced that by their exclusivity and content they're going to get more subscribers than when the package was available from all 3 sources. That's sheer arrogance. Yes they'll likely convert more of their own previously existing subscribers into the package, but they're not likely to see a huge boom of new subscribers switching from alternate sources. In today's day and age of package deals, not many people have the money, let alone the desire to disrupt the package pricing to switch their TV to something else and pay full price for what's left behind.

DirecTV isn't the bad guy here. Sure, they'll take advantage of their monopoly and jack up their rates, as well as ridiculous surcharges for HD content. But that is capitalism. MLB, is looking out for it's interests, namely profits. And that to, isn't against the law. Saying a big old screw you to those who can't/don't want their service, that's no different than any other business. I don't fault them for what they're doing. Just think it's gonna backfire pretty good for baseball and directv in the long run.

All I can say is I have had DirecTV since 95 their is no way I would ever go back to cable. If you can switch I think you will like DirecTV.

With hotpass, Sunday Ticket and EI along with great HD seems like for sports fans DirecTV is the place to be.

This is true. And if you read through my posts, you'll see that I have given in to the fact this is probably going to happen. I'll go the MLB.TV route, but not DirecTV.

But, I have every intention of continuing to complain about it.

I've been preaching on these very points since day one. MLBEI will be 100% better in the hands of DirecTV.
