They're installing my DirecTV on Wednesday. I'm loyal like Cal Ripken, folks.

Good choice. You won't be dissapointed.

Well, I'm getting a free DVR, free HBO/Skinemax for 3 months, and $10 off a month for 10 months. The switch is just going to be weird because I am so used to the channels on Dish Network. Oh well.

I like the way similar channels are grouped together with DirecTV. History, Discovery, and similar channels are from 269-289. Kids channels go from around 290-300, and so on. Last time I had any experience with Dish it wasn't like that. Once you get used to it I think you will enjoy it

I couldn't agree more, the groupings, once learned, are easier to remember. The pay-per-view in the 100's bothered me off the bat, it felt like a void in the middle that i had to constantly skip, but everything is basically from 200-300 that's worth watching to me.

skip? Just make a "favorites" and program out all that junk

I need to take advantage of the favorites thing, but I have just learned the 6 or 7 channel number that start each group. I just punch them into the guide and page up/down from there. It would be hard for me to narrow my field of favorites to any number that would actually make it an advantage. My viewing tastes are pretty broad.

That said, I have been very pleased with DirecTV and the service I have received. If they make EI anything like Sunday Ticket, then I am all for it. I know it will cut some people out, but that's the free market at work.

your favorites can have as many channels as you want. I just program out the PPV and sports package channels, plus any movie channels I don't get.

That's kinda what I was getting at. I get the biggest package they offer to regular customers. The only channels I don't get are the PPVs. So, I might as well just use the regular guide and punch in numbers since taking the channels out that I don't get wouldn't change much of anything.

PPVs don't cost you anything extra unless you order a movie. You just hook up a phone line to the box and tell them to make it accessible.

I dropped EI for MLB.TV this year. Cheaper and the fact is I live in rare apt complex that does offer Directv...however, I may have to move before the season ends.

I am thinking about switching over from Dish Network as well. Did Dish Network charge you anything to uninstall?

I subscribed to Extra Innings on directv for 3 years. But when I got high def, the picture on both hd and standard def were horrible. So I switched back to cable. Everything is great now and I won't go back to directv, even for Extra Innings. If I can't get it on cable, so be it.

This may have been addressed earlier in the thread or possibly in another thread, but if so I may have missed it.

Anyways, if someone in the Chicagoland area was to switch from Comcast cable to DirecTV, would that mean that they would not see some of the Cubs games since DirecTv does not carry ComcastSports(Chicago)?

Wouldn't it depend on if that particular Cubs game is on the daily Extra Innings schedule?

Well, after some thinking - I decided to postpone the installation of DirecTV and give Dish Network until the deadline to either pick up MLB EI, or lose me as a customer. Since I am not locked in to a contract with DirecTV until the installation is complete, I am giving Dish Network every opportunity to keep me.

BTW, Dish Network never put me under contract.

Anyone who has Cox Communications should read this article *sorry if it's a repost*

Linky

The company recently sent a letter to subscribers who purchased the “MLB Extra Innings” package last season offering a 100 percent rebate for anyone who signs up for the MLB.TV broadband service – an $89.95 value that includes video for every out-of-market game and audio for every game.

Why do people keep saying this? Is it being reported in a newspaper or something?

DirecTV most definitely DOES carry Comcast. And they aren't as stingy with it as cable is, either. I get it all the way up here in Madison

Our local cable company, Charter, would drop dead, kill 50 children, throw up all over Hillary Clinton, and sell their souls to the devil 10 times over before they'd give Madison residents Comcast.

Very cool of my cable company to pay for my MLB.TV. It's not exactly what I wanted, but they are still sticking it to DirecTV with what little ammo they've been provided with.

I just called Cox, that promotion is for new internet subscribers.

and the rep was wrong,

Hmmm, that website you posted sure seems like it's for any subscriber, not just new ones.

I think it's cool that they do that, too. Don't know about "sticking it" to DirecTV, since it basically means they're giving up on actually offering the real deal to their subscribers like DirecTV is. They're just trying like hell to avoid a mass exodus of their own subscribers to DirecTV, that's all. And who could blame them?

NEW YORK -- Baseball's "Extra Innings" package of out-of-market games might wind up staying on cable television.

IN Demand said Wednesday it will offer to match the terms of DirecTV's $700 million, seven-year deal with Major League Baseball on behalf its owners, who are affiliates of the companies that own Time Warner, Comcast and Cox cable systems.

As part of the offer, iN Demand also said it would carry The Baseball Channel when it launches in 2009 to at least the same number of subscribers who will get the channel on DirecTV.

"As the current home for 'Extra Innings' for more than 200,000 cable subscribers, we have extended ourselves to do our best to be able to continue to provide this package to baseball fans and our customers," iN Demand president Robert Jacobson said. "This offer meets all the conditions set forth by MLB last week.

MLB: iN Demand's proposal falls short

"In spite of their public comments, the response falls short of nearly all of the material conditions (among them requirements for carriage of The Baseball Channel and their share of the rights fees for Extra Innings) set forth in the Major League Baseball offer made to them on March 9," DuPuy said.
