I'm a huge Bears fan, but the news that excited me the most last week was that Prior was throwing off a mound. If the Cubs ever won the World Series I don't know what I'd do.

Me either, but drinking heavily would probably be involved.

That's always involved World Series or not.

I'd be very happy for a couple hours and then things would be pretty much the same as they were before.

Wow, really?

For me it would create a before/after point in my life. The BCWWS and ACWWS eras.

I bet it wouldn't.

I'm guessing the extreme happiness would last longer than a couple hours. But my life would pretty much be the same within a couple days.

Look at Red Sox fans. They talked about the lifting of the big monkey and all that, but they are all pretty much the same now.

yeah, but there isn't that same sense of urgency for another WS title now. Granted Red Sox fans are never happy unless they have something to complain about after years of setting that standard.

From most of the Red Sox, and White Sox for that matter, fans that I know, there's a sense of calm now when discussing the idea of the post-sesason.

The year we win a Series would instantly become one of the top three years in my life, right even with being born, and just behind getting married. :D

As for my long term reaction, I'd probably start by screaming in celebration. Probably sob like a baby at some point aftewards. Follow that up with more celebration. Few weeks of walking around on cloud 9 and/or worrying I'll wake up any minute. And after that, just a permanent smile when I think about Chicago Cubs, World Champions.

It would make life here in St. Louis a hell of a lot easier.

I think that was the year after affect. Boston fans didn't fret much about the 2005 postseason. But missing it in 2006 reigniting their anger. They talk about a sense of calm, but when it comes down to it, they get in the same arguments with Yankee fans. They'll be getting all worked up if the team struggles again this year.

If the Cubs win it, I won't be getting all worked up about the moves they make to sign backup infielders or relievers that next offseason. I won't care much about the 5th starter. But I won't just stop caring about what they do. I don't have a "just win 1" mentality with the Cubs. I want sustained success and multiple championships. The Bears SB win may have tide people over for a while, but by the late 80's nobody was saying it was okay that they weren't as good because they won in 86.

Where do you work? I can see Bush III out my window right now.

1 yr/3 mil according to espn news.

barring an unexpected trade or injury, i have think the roster is set for 2007.

For the money it's not a bad signing but to me, this means that Murton will not be getting the majority of ABs unless of course Jones is traded which is a possibility. Now is Floyd an upgrade over Jones? I don't know. Edited by YearofDaCubs

Good deal. I think the 2007 Cubs Opening Day roster is complete.

C - Barrett

1B - Lee

2B DeRosa

SS - Izturis

3B - Aramis

LF - Murton

CF - Soriano

RF - Jones

Bench - Floyd, Ward, Theriot, Blanco, 1 more (Pagan, Cedeno, Perez in the mix)

Starters - Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Prior/Miller, Marquis

Bullpen - Dempster, Wood, Ohman, Eyre, Cotts, Wuertz, Miller (of Prior is healthy)

Lots of question marks, but a very high ceiling on that team.

Why does it mean that? That would run contrary to everything Piniella and Hendry have been saying-they want Floyd to be the 4th OF, not take away most of Murton's AB's.

it would be amazing if he were better than himself.

If Murton, Floyd, Ward, Soriano and Jones are all on the opening day roster. I have to think they'll go with another infielder there. Theriot can't be the only backup.

haha, I meant to say Floyd an upgrade over Jones ;)

3MM base? I'd be curious to see how the incentives are broken down.

Please don't say broken down in a Floyd thread!

I hope he doesn't think he's going to get 500 AB's at the expense of big red.

Well, up until this week they said Soriano was going to be playing a corner OF spot.

I think Murton is going to get the majority, as in at least 350 PA (barring injury). The question is whether it's going to be a 51/49, 60/40 or 80/20 type of majority.
