WEEK 16: Bears at Detroit Sunday December 24th noon CST

Posted (edited)

Since I am on vacation and this thread hasn't been started yet I figured that I would start it. I'll be watching at my sisters house in the north shore suburbs.

Edit: The game should be on FOX, in the dome in Detroit. Here are some pics.

I'm heading up home and will be able to watch the game.

I want them to win, but what I really want is for Grossman to play a half or so, have thrown a couple of TDs and have a lot of confidence, and then get out of the game.

Same against GB, though apparently they still have a shot at the playoffs. If that's the case, it would be nice to play spoiler.

Drats for going home this weekend. I don't think there's much chance that New Hampshire picks up the Bears/Lions tilt.

sports bars take care of this problem.

I have yet to find a good bar with Sunday Ticket in NH. That and the fact that I'd feel guilty ditching my family on XMas eve to go drinking and watch football ;)

So what's the general consensus as to how much rest the starters should get before the playoffs? Personally, I think they should play this week and then sit the last game and then have the bye. Something about resting your top players for 3 weeks before the playoffs doesn't seem too smart. I understand wanting to have people healthy and ready to go, but I don't want them too "out of the loop" by the time that 2nd playoff week rolls around.

The selfish part of me really wants to see the starters wail the snot out of Brett and the Packers that last week.

I think that if anybody is physically in a position where they'd show up on the injury report as anything below probable, they should sit. I think most starters should play most of the game. I'd hate to see Urlacher out there with a cast of backups though.

The bouncer or the bar could probably think of a better way to celebrate when he refuses to let in my 8 year old brother and 15 year old sister :)

Well geez, even the extreme awesomeness of the Bears is not worth watching the Lions play

Nah, what am I talking about, it totally is.

I'd like both games to be much like the last game of pre-season. both units play the entire first half and maybe a series or two after the half, and then whole sale changes. the last thing I want to see is the starters sitting the entire last game. it can take nearly a quarter to get back up to game speed with that much time off, and last year that made all the difference.

The starters should definitely play at least the first half in both games, maybe even three quarters in Detroit. Exceptions can be made for blowouts, but otherwise, I don't want the starters to get too terribly much time off. Not only does the entire team know that they need to play MUCH better than they have of late in order to make any noise in the post-season, but they're also a proud group that wants to finish with as much distance as possible between them and number 2 in the NFC.

I know it shouldn't bother me, but has anyone checked out the ESPN article by Wojciechowski about the Bears? In it, he not only talks about how the Bears aren't that great of a team because they barely beat the Cardinals and Bucs, but also gets a few very unfunny jokes at the expense of the Tank Johnson scenario.

Sunday afternoon, as I was cleaning my cache of semi-automatic weapons and surface-to-air rocket launchers, I watched the Bears-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game with my kids and our 26 pit bulls. Oh, wait, that was defensive tackle Tank Johnson, who, incredibly enough, is still employed by the Bears.

Does the man realize the players' grievances that would be filed and all the other junk the Bears would have to wade through if they didn't figure out the right way of releasing him? To Wojciechowski, the fact that we didn't release him the same day after it happened is unacceptable. Additionally, he makes several jabs at Smith being delusional.

And yet, Mr. "The Glass Is Completely Full" Smith acts as if it's a huge deal the Bears are unbeaten against the rest of the NFC North mopes. He recites the Bears' overall record like it's a weather update. Last week, 11-2. This week, 12-2. Next week, after they dispose of the Lions, 13-2.

The '06 Bears reflect Smith. Mostly bland. Defensive. In a state of denial about all sorts of things, including, oh, I don't know, defensive tackles, assault rifles, and wee-hour fatal shootings.

Alright. Rant over. I really need to get my sports fix away from ESPN.

Please win this one!

Does it really matter?

I'd like to see us finish 14-2, but everything is pretty moot from here on out. (I'd like to see our offense and defense do well, but the outcome doesn't really matter to me. Much like a preseason game.)

Except that Packers game.

ESPN Sucks

if you listened to what ESPN says

The Eagles are going to the super bowl because Jeff Garcia is OMG WTF awesome. ESPN has taken the same position they did with Tony Romo, on its knees right in front of him

Eventhough New Orleans lost and the bears won, New Orleans only hit a bump in the road while the bears are terrible right now

The bears only have a "decent" defense because they have had poor outings the past 2 games. Hey sean salisbury, dont tell the everyone that we had a pro bowl CB and 1 of our safteys out.

The colts that they left for dead last week will destroy any team out there.

now im not saying there isint a bit of concern about what happened sunday but i have a feeling that the defense, especially the secondary got really lazy and thats when things started to happen. i believe this because once they got the s#@$ kicked out of them they figured oh time to play again and they stopped the bucs over and over again after their last TD.

I mean no ill will towards the Bears but I have to say go Lions this week because they'll likely win the tiebreaker over the Raiders in the race for the #1 pick.
