16 million to do what? Stand out in left field and not catch balls and try to hit 22 more home runs before what's left of his knees fall off?

and get on base 45% of time. bonds is still a great hitter, and he's not as bad as people make him out on defense. he's much more likely to be worth 16 million dollars during his contract than soriano is to be in any season during his.

I don't think Hendry had interest in Bonds.

Notice that there were plenty of stat inclined GMs out there that didn't talk with Bonds either. I can't blame Hendry or anyone for not wanting to bring the circus to town.

no he's not. no matter how extraordinary he may be, he's not going to be doing anything in about one third of the games the Giants play.

Thanks God, now we can end all of this "Bonds to the Cubs" talk.

I'm a helluva lot more relieved that it would end the "Bonds to Cardinals" talk.

hmm. interesting poll questions

which is worse:

Bonds becoming a Cub

Bonds becoming a Card.

I can't believe that there was another team out there willing to even give him $12 million. He had SF by the short and curlies because he knew that SF wants him to break the record there. SF fans are the only fans left who don't hate him as a person. In speaking to the Giants fans that I've met, they still like the guy. He wouldn't have been embraced in any other city for breaking the all-time HR record. I must say that StL would have been a decent destination because of their fanbase, and it would have helped me to hate them more. I wouldn't have minded seeing them waste a ton of money on a PT player either...

and he'd still be more valuable than most of the cubs' hitters.

than maybe you should have said "most of the cubs' hitters" in the first place instead of saying "Soriano." I have little doubt that Bonds in 2/3 of the Giants games will be more valuable than Mark DeRosa in a full season.

$16 million. Lordy.

Only one year, but word is no other team even sniffed at Barry. SF could have had him for $10.

Who else was interested in him that they needed to pay him that much? Makes the Billy Beane look really smart for getting Piazza for 8.5 mill.

i didn't say soriano. you're getting confusing me with tree, who wants to be just like me.

maybe you should read a little more carefully since we're giving out advice.
