can Brian Griese play defensive tackle?

That's classified information.

Yeah. Practices are closed for a reason, buddy.

What a hilarious analogy from Bill Simmons:

You know when someone is down to a few suitcases left on "Deal or No Deal," including a couple of the big money ones, then one of the models opens the "$1,000,000" suitcase, followed by the contestant going into shock for two seconds and abruptly snapping into, "that's OK, that's OK!" mode even though we know they're absolutely devastated inside? Well, that's how Lovie Smith has been dealing with Grossman's ongoing meltdown. He's in constant "that's OK, that's OK!" mode. Look, I'm not a huge Brian Griese fan, either. But at some point, Lovie is going to run out of suitcases, right?

Color me worried about not having Tommie Harris in our defense.

And worried about Grossman.

I think we could survive one or the other, but both.....and I think we see another one-and-done.

If you were to follow the Sports Guys betting ideas long enough, you'd lose a ton of money. It's fine to question Grossman, but you can't then place Dallas over them and use Romo as good support, since he has not played any better, or against any better competition, than the Grossman started out the season. Rex looked so much better in the Meadowlands than Romo looked.

Yeah, I enjoy his pop culture references, and those type of things than any kind of sports analysis from him.

At this point it's just piling on though. People need to back off. If the Bears are going to lose in the playoffs, then fine. Not many people even thought Lovie would be able to beat the Packers, much less win 2 divisions in a row.

I know the bar has to be winning the Super Bowl, but my point is none of these media types gave us any credit before for what was happening in Chicago. They called us junk even when it was clear we were building empire on defense. Now they just ignore the accomplishments made, and rag on Rex for a living.

Looking at it realistically, teams like the Colts are in the same boat, having lost in the playoffs while putting together great regular seasons. Yet I don't hear the criticism coming their way. It's all pretty darn biased. That's why I think deep down inside most media types hate Chicago and are hoping we fail. How could I think any differently? 10-2, first to clinch, best record in the NFL and nothing but negative press about the QB? Come on, something's wrong with that.

The funny thing is that you are using a Bill Simmons quote to talk about how the media is slamming the Bears and not the Colts when Simmons has made his career in the last 3 years making jokes about the Colts and their ineptitude in big games. BTW, the Colts have received plenty of bad press this year-all year it was "Well, they have Peyton-but it doesn't matter because they can't run the ball, and they can't stop the run, and that's what counts"-they are still saying the same things about how the Colts inability to run the ball will be their undoing in the playoffs (a few don't, but many do). I'm not sure the Colts are the correct example here-the teams who have received the media love this year are SD, Dallas, the Giants at times (before they melted down a little bit), and the Patriots at times-that's pretty much it.

I don't care if it's Grossman improving or Griese coming in, but the offense has to improve. Recent history has shown that great defense alone won't get you far in the playoffs (okay, Baltimore, but I'd venture to guess that they scored a few points along the way). One bad defensive game (Philly, Carolina) in the playoffs and you're toast

Everybody loves the Jets, and it only grew after the Bears beat them 10-0 in their own building. The media wrote that game up like a Jets win and a Grossman disaster.

That's true-the Jets love has been slowly growing throughout the season-if they win a couple more games, it could be in full swing by playoff time.

And by the way, I believe Simmons' Colts treatment is mostly about Manning, and a jealousy that some people actually like Manning over Brady. He acts the same way with ARod.

So that's it? Lose Tommie Harris, who hasn't had a sack since week 4, and it's all over? The guy's a great player, don't get me wrong, but I doubt he's the difference between winning and losing in the playoffs.

I hear what you're saying, but the level of criticism is just way louder surrounding the Bears right now. It's in every 2 minute football segment, just ragging and ragging to no end.

Maybe it's just that the Colts criticism has been going on so long that they finally gave it a rest.

No way in hell the Jets get coverage like this if they play in the midwest. Not one chance.

Unless Grossman plays anything like the first 5 games of the season, we're done with this news

Lets not get crazy.

I don't think Griese can save us from having no Tommie in the middle, either.

We get into the playoffs, where there will be good teams pounding the ball up the middle-------we're in deep crap without Harris.

I think we just watched our Super Bowl dreams go down the toilet.

a team capable of pounding the ball up the middle would have had success against the bears even with Harris.

Maybe, but even more so without Harris, who has consistantly been drawing double teams from the O-Line all year long. Not to overreact more, but the entire D is likely to feel a ripple effect from losing Harris

We may end up coming out of this with an improvement up front against the run. Ian Scott is a run stuffing specialist, and with him in on many downs now, we may help in that area.

I'm also kind of excited with the prospect of seeing Alex Brown in at DT and supposedly Mark Anderson replacing. That would be some sick pass rush right there.

Without so much as a sneer, Brian Griese declined to answer how many snaps Lovie Smith had allotted him Thursday at practice.

"If Lovie wanted you to know that, he'd probably tell you," Griese said calmly. "That's why practices are closed."

Of course, that implied a good reason existed to close practice.

So Griese was asked a different way whether he would work any more with the No. 1 offense before Monday's game against the St. Louis Rams than he usually does.

"I don't know what part of that answer you didn't understand," Griese said matter-of-factly.

You do not need to belong to the NFL chapter of Mensa to understand what is going on at Halas Hall.

No matter how safe Smith's rhetoric has sounded, Grossman will be on the clock from the first snap against the Rams. For the first time all season, the Bears also will come prepared to use Griese if Grossman's errors stymie the offense for the third straight game

Sounds like a bad first half on Monday night and Rex could be out.

Well we're sure going to need some offense. Because with those starters out Monday? You can bet the Rams are going to put up some serious points.

I'm worried we aren't even going to have the ball enough to score.

SOUL JESUS CHRIST ENOUGH WITH THIS KINDA CRAP

Its getting to the point where you start "OH my god, I'm afraid of Alex Smith and his tiny hands, OUR DEFENSE CAN'T STOP HIM"

I'm not worried about our offense getting the ball at all. We just have to score with it.

According to ESPN.com report, Griese has been receiving half the snaps with the first team offense at practice this week. Looks like the pressure is on for Grossman on MNF. This might be the most important game of the year. If Griese comes in for Grossman, Rex might never be a starter for the Bears again.

Griese has been receiving half of the reps in practice this week, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site, citing an unnamed player.

If Rex is bad in the first half on Monday, I think we'll see Griese leading the offense in the second half.

Turner just better start things off by establishing the ground game early. The last thing this team needs is for him letting Grossman start to panic early and letting things snowball.

Once they start to run the ball, it's going to make things a lot easier for Rex.
