The headline is "Pujols: MVP should be from winner" I think the Philies won 2 more games than the Cards did. Pujols probably should have won the MVP but not because his team made the playoffs because they were in the weak NL central.

Howard and the Phillies missed the playoffs -- though they won two more regular-season games than St. Louis did.

good stuff.

Definitely my favorite part as well. Reminds him that he was in the playoffs because his team was the least bad in a pathetic division.

I hope some of the sports media will call him out on this crap, maybe on PTI or around the horn. He's complaining about not getting his own individual award after his team just won the world series. How many players would pull this crap?

Another thread in this forum asks the hypothetical question, "What would Sammy Sosa have to do to be loved again?". How awesome would it be if Sammy penned an op-ed piece in the Trib ripping Pujols for his selfishness.? He could talk about how he would gladly give up his MVP award if it meant bringing a championship to the Cubs, which I believe is a statement he has already made. That would make him look a lot less selfish in comparison, and I think a lot of Cubs fans would rally around him because it's about the hated Pujols.

Exactly the point! Any respect I had for him just got flushed down the cr*pper.

Compare Albert and Howard's post All-Star stats and that's likely the reason why people voted for Ryan Howard. Pujols was great the 2nd half of the season, but Ryan Howard was the BEST in all of baseball. Teams tend to need to rely on their key players toward the end of the year, and while Pujols played great, he actually played a worse than he did the first half, whereas Ryan Howard completely exploded his first half numbers after the AS Break.

Like it's been said, in any other division the Cardinals wouldn't be in the playoffs, Howard sparked a team that proclaimed itself dead after at the trade deadline and finished with a better record than the Cardinals.

Howards post AS stats:

.355AVG 30HR 78RBI .509OBP .751SLG 1.259OPS

Pujols post AS stats

.344AVG 20HR 61RBI .427OBP .642SLG 1.068OPS

Howard was an absolute hoss the 2nd half, which likely contributed to him winning the MVP over Pujols.

When Bonds won his last MVP didn't Pujols say that he didn't care and all he cared about was winning the world series? Hmmmmmm

I don't know if I have seen a guy in major league baseball that plays to win more than Pujols. The Cardinals are really lucky to have him. His winning attitude is contagious. I would take nine guys on the field that has his attitude about winning any day on my team. No one roots for his teammates or plays to win more than him. Should this statement have been said by him? you make your judgement on that. But I know this much, it doesn't negate the fact that he is a winner. I would expect him to want to win the mvp, knowing he is a competitor. If I was a cardinal fan, I wouldn't be a bit upset at this. This guy wants to win at everything.

That's true. But if he was a true gentleman of the sport as he's come to be considered over the span of his career, he would've congratulated Howard on a fine season rather that gripe about how he deserved it and Howard didn't. He's really ruining his image. First Glavine, now this? He's just being immature
