And what exactly are people jealous about? That Pujols is a whiny little baby? Give me a break.

What makes me laugh is the idea that Pujols, in any way, "led his team to the playoffs" in the first place. Pujols, much like Derrek Lee in 2005, led his team to mediocrity, and the Cubs, Pirates, Brewers, Reds, and Astros allowed them into the playoffs by sucking so bad. Pujols had a fantastic year on an 83 win team. Derrek Lee had a fantastic year on a 78 win team, and didn't win the award. There's very little difference.

Absolutely agree - well said.

I like Albert but he's wrong on this one. Howard led his team to a better record in a tougher division. The playoffs or WS shouldn't be a factor in the MVP decision.

Seriously.

And Pujols is turning into a real a-hole. In fact, several of the guys in my office (huge Cards fans) were saying today how much of an a-hole he is. Obviously all Cards fans love him cause he's so good, but he's starting to really rub some of his fan base the wrong way.

.341/.529/.749, 231 OPS+

.359/.439/.667, 189 OPS+

Yes he did, and it wasn't even close.

Yes, I'm sure the writers were checking that OPS+ figure. .

By the way, at what point is that OPS+ as valuable on 390 AB (+ 150 BB) vs. AP's 591 AB with 80 BB. .

Part of the criteria is playing every day right? I mean Albert was penalized this year for missing 15 games right?

Well, for one thing Bonds walked 232 times that year, not 150. To make a pretty good estimate without going too far into the details, Bonds had about 620 PA and Pujols had about 690 PA. Not a big difference. And, Bonds played in just 7 fewer games than Pujols that year.

This has always been a topic for discussion because the sportswriters have different opinions on what the MVP stands for. Some view it as the best player in the league while others view it as the most valuable person to a team. I think they should limit the MVP to the 1st & 2nd place teams in each division and then have a "Player of the Year" award open to all players. Using the Cubs as an example, Banks won the MVP in 1958 and 1959 while the Cubs were in last place.
