If we loose Aramis Hendry will not break up the team as many of us think he should, you don't get Piniella then invest in Kids.Would Seattle like to get rid of Beltres contract ?? what would it take?? could this be a buy low situation? I hate the FA options such as Huff etc is Beltre the most realistic trade target?? Does Moore,Marshall and Dempster get it done??

Ummm....no thank you on Adrian Beltre. If the Cubs lose ARam, I would just prefer either A: Put Scott Moore at third, and grow with him, or B: See what it would take to get Bill Hall from Milwaukee. Failing that, Adrian Beltre SHOULD NOT be a consideration for 3rd, UNLESS Seattle eats a good portion of his contract.

If we lose Ramirez the more likely scenario to replace his power would be to upgrade in RF, CF, SS. Make 3B a place for young guys to fight over: Moore, Fotenot, Theriot.

Lets say (keep in mind w/out ARAM we have lots of cash)

Trade for Andruw Jones and sign to extention

Sign JD Drew

Sign Lugo

Sign cheaper 2B (Loretta?) or trade for Giles type

or

Trade for ARod

Sign JD Drew

Sign Frank Catalanatto

Sign cheape 2B

Lugo/Catalanatto SS/RF

Loretta/Giles 2B (or Murton, depends on 2B)

Lee 1B

Jones/ARod CF/SS

Drew RF/CF

Barrett C

Murton LF

Moore 3B

Still should have enough for some nice pitching.

I know that Beltre hasn't justified his huge contract but doesn't the thought of Hendry going out and getting D Bell, Aurillia or some other tool scare people?? I have to be honest i don't see the cubs ending up with 1 premier free agent this winter. Suggestions of trading for A-rod seem pie in the sky to me , who eactly would the yankees want in a trade? I'll tell you who Z and that is it. So unless everyone is willing to give our only realiable starter away better look elsewhere for improvement. I have no faith in this org to bring in the quality needed to turn this around. Can you honestly see us matching teams on Soriano, Zito and Drew? Hell as the Ramirez fiasco proves we can't even keep our own guys let alone bring in others.

Yes it does, scare me that if ARam leaves, Hendry could "replace ARam" witha David Bell/Rich Aurilla type player, but how is Adrian Beltre any different? Atleast, Bell and Aurilla would be cheap stopgaps, who would be easier to unload that Beltre, thus those options are prolly better then acquiring Beltre.

I disagree. Hendry's butt is on the line (no jokes, plz) and with the rumors that McDonough is willing to let the payroll jump to around $115 mill, it's safe to say that Hendry is going to land a premier FA. Not to mention McD mandate is to "win this yr", the pressure is on Hendry to field a "WINNER." So, yeah...look for one, and who knows, maybe two premier FA/traded players on the Cubs in 2007.

You don't nessarily need "talent" to acquire talent. If you're willing to eat an ugly contract, along with the talent, you could "feesibly" acquire ARod

(in this case) for a package of young arms (that includes Marmol and perhaps Gallgaher) if you are willing to take back Jaret Wright or Carl Pavano. Stop the inside the box thinking, and look outside for answers.

I want nothing to do with Soriano and Zito (perhaps next yr's most spectular pitching/hitting bust), but Drew, you never know. Drew, you neve rknow. Hendry does work well with Boras, and that could carry some weight in negotiations, and should the Cubs offer the CF job, he MIGHT take. So don't rule out JD Drew, just. Just remember, he isn't under contract WITH ANYBODY, meaning he is still available, and can be had. I mean, if Vladimir Guerrero was still availabe on January 13, 2004, when the Angels sign him the next day...then who knows.

If we've got to find a replacement 3B, I'm looking no further than Morgan Ensberg.

The Astros have soured on him so he should be cheap, but he's good for quite a bit of production. ARod is great, but I want him as a SS.... Ensberg would be the best cheap production from 3B.

I'm going to assume this is a pun. If I'm right, you are up WAY too late.

Wow. Just, wow....

Even if you're wrong, you're up far past your bedtime

He's making fun of your spelling. The correct spelling is feasibly.

If the Cubs lose out on Ramirez, I'd like to see them push for Garciaparra and DeRosa, with the idea that either of them could see time across the infield, but that each plays pretty much everyday.

If the Cubs lose Ramirez, I'll get a lot of stuff done around the house next summer.

But, if I had to pick a replacement for Ramirez and A-Rod and Cabrera were not available, I think I'd like to see the Cubs win the bidding for Iwamura. Heck, I think I'd like to see them win the bidding for him anyway. He can always shift to 2b if Ramirez is retained.

Ramirez or bust with me. And by "bust", I don't mean Adrian Beltre.

I think Teahen might be a good option. I know it says the Royals are planning on trying him out in the outfield, but they might be swayed if we give them young pitching.

Seconded.

Adrian Beltre is not good, and his contract is even worse.

Hendry's gotta spend his money somehow in order to 'appease' the fans.

How about spending some of that money on higher quality food and beer without raising prices?
