To me it seems that Hendry hasn't made it a priority to resign Aramis. Why are they waiting until next week to discuss a contract? This should have been done long ago. The biggest regret the Cubs will make is allowing a clown like Hendry to stay as GM as the entire organization was getting cleaned out.

If we don't re-sign Aramis, I might not go to any games. I could seriously lose interest in the Cubs.

I always talk like that, but quite frankly the Cubs are a terminal illness for me. I can't quit.

"I wish I knew how to can't quit you, Cubs."

Agent Paul Kinzer told ESPN.com that he wants a six-year deal for Aramis Ramirez should the third baseman leave the Cubs as a free agent.

The Cubs' exclusive negotiating window closes on Saturday. "If we go out, we're going to look for six years," Kinzer said. "I'm pretty confident it would go there. Aramis is only 28 years old, and that puts him in his prime." Ramirez likely will be seeking at least $15 million-$16 million per year, though he might take less in return for the six-year commitment.

Hmm-that's interesting. At the same time Sullivan had quotes about Hendry not going to meet with Ramirez's agent next week, Hendry was actually meeting with Ramirez's agent! Not good news to hear that it likely won't get done before Saturday night, though.

I think the 6 years is the catch right there that Hendry is hanging up on. I'll bet anything that he's trying to stick to 5 years...

Ohhhhhhhhh Lordy...

5/70, with a team option in the 6th for 16m, and a 5m buyout. That makes it a 14.3m per if you pick up the option, 15m per if you don't pick up the option.

Maybe he said he won't meet with him because by that time ARam will already be signed! Or more likely because if they haven't come to an agreement, Hendry will give him a take it or leave it # on Sat night and if ARAM doesnt accept it then he will give him a few weeks to test the market before talking to Kinzer again.

I'd like to see five years guaranteed, a sixth year vesting option, and a seventh year player option.

I would not like to see the player option. I'm fine with seeing that 6th year option vest automatically if he averages 550 PA in years 4 and 5.

I should clarify that I would prefer not to have the player option, but I would be confident that, if he were healthy enough to trigger the vesting option, the player option would be safe to offer as a carrot.

If Aramis leaves.. Would you guys boo him if he came back to wrigley with another team?? I like him alot, but this is the guy who said " Ill never use that clause in my contract" " Chicago is where I want to be the rest of my life" To me, its like, If you love chicago and being a Cub that much, just take the 13-15 million a year or whatever theyre offering you... I dont get the big difference between a few million with these ball players, its just sick how greedy they get...Im sure you can do just fine with 13 million a year Aramis..Cmon are these guys ever gunna use all that money? Hell No..If he was loyal to the Cubs and kept his word he wouldve never opted out or he wouldve re-signed already..

so if we go by rumors:

ramirez is going to sign elsewhere

matsuzaka(sp) will be in boston

schmidt wants to play in seattle

there are about 7 teams bidding for zito

c.lee may end up in houston

soriano wants beltran money

where does this leave us?

drew is probably an easy fit, but still.

this is not a good look. :x

With an agent talking about 6 years, I don't see much value in offering a 7th as a carrot. And I'm not sure they'd view it as a carrot, since the 6th year would have to be triggered to make it happen.

those are soundbytes, and i almost never hold a player accountable for that. What's he supposed to say? "Thank God I got this opt-out just in case the team sucks and I can blow this dump of a town"?

He negotiated the opt-out. People asked him about it. He gave the right PR answer. Nothing to see here.

What is so freaking hard about that deal that is couldn't have been done a week ago? If Aramis gets pissy about it, make the six year a mutual option or a vesting option.

I don't like the direction this is going.

Yeah, so what? 2 years ago he said he didn't think he'd use it. Maybe he thought Hendry would talk longterm with him before it came time to use it. Who cares though? If people have an opportunity to make more money, they are usually going to take that opportunity, unless it would require a significant increase in the effort they prefer to give.

I would neither boo nor cheer Ramirez upon his theoretical return, unless maybe once he left he started ragging on Cubs fans.

I'm worried because this is starting to look like another Hendry failure.
