Girardi should stay out one year then the Marlins owe him an additional 1.5 million, then jump back in.

As far as lou's staff is concerned just find all the bums over 70 and Don Baylor and he'll call it his staff.

Can someone just shoot me now, this was the worst news i could hear ...so far today

How ironic, everything seems to fit here when Hendry brought Wilken over here, 1st Buckley comes over, then Negron both from the Jays, then Izturis and then rumors of Vernon Wells, now Piniella who was with Rays when Wilken was there and now Mclaren who was with Jays and Rays while Wilken was there and Mclaren was manager of a Jays minor league club in 80 and Wilken was his coach, I think Hendry is leaning alot on Wilken!

Well if Hendry can get a cetain pitcher on the Jays that has won a few games that would be nice!

I keep wondering how big Lou's coaching staff will be. I have heard rumors of McLaren, Elia, Quade, Rothschild, and Spier so far. I hope the Cubs aren't going to blow their payroll on the manager and a ton of coaches.

bench coach, pitching coach, hitting coach, 3B, 1B, bullpen. There's plenty of room.

Who is the hitting coach?

Sorry if I missed it somewhere.

Hitting coach is unknown at this point, I think.

It appears we know Rotshchild as PC and McLaren as bench coach. It seems it is speculated that Quade will be first base coach.

Elia may be the hitting coach. I'd prefer Chamblis.

Well, I missed on McLarne, got Rothschild correct, and it appears Sinatro will be the bullpen coach according to this.

Piniella will have pitching coach Larry Rothschild, another former Rays manager who worked for him in Cincinnati, and Matt Sinatro, his longtime bullpen coach, with him. But not longtime bench coach John McLaren, who decided to take the bench coach job with the Mariners in an effort to further his credentials to be a manager and diminish his reputation as a Piniella follower.

So, if the Trammel rumor is correct, we have:

Bench Coach: Alan Trammel

Hitting Coach: ?

Pitching Coach: Larry Rothschild

Firstbase Coach: ? but believed to be Quade.

Thirdbase Coach:

Bullpen Coach: Matt Sinatro.

All right....I'll take the hitting coach job then since nobodys taken it yet.

Those last 2 openings are pretty important IMO and may distinguish what idenity this team is going to have.

I think 3rd base will end up being Speir. I have no clue about the hitting coach though, but it is a very important position, and I hope its a good thing they are taking their time on it.

I would love to see Jody, Jody Davis get the 3rd base job. He was great in Peoria this past year, but I don't see him putting up with the minors for too much longer...

Also, this little tidbit on Sweet Lou...I was reading Management by Baseball by Jeff Angus, and on page 31, he talks about Piniella's turnaround skills:

BP=Before Piniella

WP=With Piniella

B/W[tab]Team[tab][tab]Year[tab]Wins[tab]Losses[tab]Gain

BP[tab]Cincinatti[tab] 1989[tab]74[tab]88[tab]

BP[tab]Tampa Bay[tab]2002[tab]55[tab]106

WP[tab]Tampa Bay[tab]2003[tab]63[tab]99[tab]+7.5

Apologies if anyone else had posted this, but it does give me at least *some* hope for next year :)

No way, man. I've heard rumors that you preached swinging at a curveball, no matter the count, is a good thing. :lol:

That's why it's called hitting and not walking.

Chris Chambliss anyone? 8)

Piniella has already named Larry Rothschild his pitching coach, and Triple-A Iowa manager Mike Quade is expected to join the Cubs as either first or third base coach. Piniella's next big hire will be his hitting coach. Among the potential candidates is former Yankees teammate Chris Chambliss, recently fired as the Reds' hitting coach.

I'm not so sure about Speir, he was the infield instructor also and Trammel is going to be doing that now so I'm guessing Speir is less appealing. I like the idea of Jody Davis, he could work with Barrett.
