OMG!! Move to baseball transactions?

If true, prayers go out to Cory's family

Definitely. I am listening to ESPN radio who is confirming it. I can't find it anywhere else though.

MSNBC is now saying the Yankees will not comment, only saying any info will come from the FAA. The plane was in the process of being registered in his name.

You've got to be kidding me...that's terrible.

If it's true, I wonder how Mike and the Mad Dog feel about their chat on Monday...

I don't know if any of this is serious, but Mike and Mad Dog need to own up if it is. Seriously, there is a certain level of criticism that athletes need to learn to take, especially in a big market. But there is also a line that should not be crossed. Some might think it's "entertainment" to drag a guy through the mud on the public airwaves. I do not.

EDIT: cnn.com says "New York Yankees Manager Joe Torre told CNN that the plane that was a Cirrus SR-20 registered to team pitcher Cory Lidle." That doesn't say he was flying it. Nothing on ESPN.com, who I assume would be all over it if he's dead

They just said law enforcement on the ground has confirmed Lidle was on board.

It's being reported on CNN as well.

Lidle dead confirmed by 670

That's awful. Another Yankee going down in a plane crash (Munson).

Most of the NY media need a wake up call. It's unfortunate that it had to happen like this...

ESPNNews now saying 4 dead including Lidle, observers say plane was erratic before crashing.

Jeremy Schaap says Lidle was alone in the plane. He also said apartment inhabitant was the only other fatality. Hopefully it was only 2.

Anyone...Buhler...

what did they say to him?

On Monday they were torching him for being unprepared to face Detroit, and he called in and tried to defend himself, and they apparently proceeded to rip him apart on the air.

I suppose it could have just been a terrible accident though, rather than a deliberate act.

Man...the Yankees and plane crashes, I don't know what it is. ESPN says that they believe he was the only one on the plane and the other fatalities were in the apartment. Prayers go out to all.

All of the local channels are reporting that indeed, Lidle was on the plane. It took off from Teterboro Airport in North NJ (about three miles from my house) so this one feels a little close to home.

okay, now it's on espn.com

still no proof it was suicide. could have just been an accident

Who said anything about Suicide?

I think some were insinuating that the treatment he got on Mike and Mad Dog and other NY Media outlets may have caused him to be distressed

Can we stop alluding to suicide, please? It's being reported as an accident, so it should be regarded as such. It doesn't look good to complain about radio analysts dragging someone's name through the mud, by saying (before the dust has settled) that they pushed someone to kill themselves

I am listening to it now - http://www.wfan.com/.

Mike and Chris have always been hot heads, and have set the tone for the nasty NYC media for years. They are entertaining, but take sports a bit too seriously.

EDIT: The logic they are using in assailing Lidle is faulty. Lidle could have been saying that the team stinks and we should have been better prepared, but that's our fault, not Torre's. I think they wanted this story to blow up, as usual.
