if you don't want piniella, you better root hard against detroit this postseason...because if hendry sees a team win the world series with a crotchety old manager, by golly he's going to do his best to emulate that team.

which brings up a good question...knowing that hendry likes to (badly) impersonate the most recent world series winner, who should cub fans be pulling for?

I think the only option is the Mets. They are the best combination of pitching and hitting. And our best bet is having him improve both pitching and hitting.

:x :!: This makes Lou that much more attractive to Hendry. He gets the guy Steinbrenner was after.

Please take some other job Lou.

That's the worst argument I have heard this year. Good job.

John Kruk just suggested that the Yankees should trade ARod to the Marlins....

Think about what you say for a second John....

The $25 million dollar man, traded to a team with a $15 million payroll and 8,000 fans a game...

ARod for Cabrera was mentioned many times this weekend.

ARod is a $16m man right now.

Serious question...

Is it just me, or does it always look like Kruk has a dip in on the set? Maybe that is just the natural shape of his lips, but I swear it looks like a dip.

so torre has to have a press conference announcing that he's not being fired. how embarrassing for him.

Exactly.

Isn't really something he should have to do.

But it is the Yankees, everything is blown up to a higher magnitude.

Calmer, listen to the baseball men George is much less interesting than crazy, independent, fire-at-will George.

agreed. I liked the George who went through managers like they were women he had picked up at the bar, and then occasionally decided to hook up with one again from time to time.

Kruk gets paid handsomely for that brilliant analysis. I think part of his brain was removed when they amputated his nut.

"You know as painfull as it is I had to let a few people go over the years. Yogi Berra, Lou Piniella, Bucky Dent, Billy Martin, Dallas Green, Dick Houser, Bill Virdon, Billy Martin, Scott Marrow, Billy Martin, Bob Lemmon, Billy Martin, Gene Michael, Buck Showalter"

I actually didn't see anything wrong with that. Hendry's the kind of guy who would pride himself on stealing someone that another team supposedly wanted even if he isn't any good.

We can't win. If Detroit wins, he'll hire an old manager and keep looking for that speedy leadoff guy (ignoring Granderson's abilities in other areas). If the Mets win, he'll bring in a bunch of Latinos regardless of talent level (Neifi, Macias, Loaiza...). If the Cardinals win, he'll assume we can win by building a mediocre supporting cast around his Pujols, Derrek Lee. If the A's win...well, I'm sure he'll think of some dumb reason why.

I don't want "Uncle Lou", it should be either Bochy (if he is giving clearance) or Girardi, with an improbable off-chance of Larry Dierker. Does anybody think John M, is going to highly "influenced" Hendry into hiring Girardi, and Hendry is going to fight for Piniella, and they settle for Bruce Bochy?

Now that Torre is staying, I think A-Rod will depart. The only way I saw A-Rod staying was if Piniella came.

i laughed outloud at that

I don't know. The overall feeling of calming down after the initial blowup might make it less likely. One thing I think you have to do is pounce on Yankee hysteria early.
