I would do a lot of bad and evil things for Vernon Wells to be on the Cubs

Evil nothing. It's evening out God's hatred of the Cubs... call it Karma.

Play Pie, Wells is not as good as he played this year.

True, but moving from a better league to a worse league should mean that stats would remain mostly the same from last year if he were to go to an NL team.

The difference in leagues isn't nearly that great. Wells is a good player, he'll likely put up an .800+ OPS for the next few seasons, but isn't likely to consistently approach .900 like he has this year.

I agree, basically he would be a rent-a-player, and we all know how well that works out for us in CF this year. It would be a typical short sighted buy high move, which would have been fine in 2004, but this team is not one player away from being a contender.

I think he and Boo-yrnes would make a fine pbp and color combination.

Andruw Jones> Vernon Wells

Jones would also likely cost less talent, considering his larger contract.

Jacque Jones and Sean Marshall could very well do it if we take the full brunt of the contract.

That would not get it done. Not even close. Schuerholz would not trade his franchise player in his prime for a possible #3 starter and a player with no long-term future for the Braves. We'd need to give up more, especially when we'd be competing against other teams for him.

The problem KCF, is that Schuerholz has his hands "tied" into four players; Smoltz/Hudson/ and the Jones, who have large contracts. Smoltz is possibly a "trade deadline" chip he has...Chipper Jones no longers has a "definite position" and that he is "the Franchise" of Atlanta (and not AJ), and Hudson ain't worth the contract he got. Now Atl would prolly want somebody like Gallagher or Marmol along with Jones and Marshall to make their side of the deal worthwhile. Nonetheless AJ is so avalable, and don't be surprise at how much/how little it will take (in terms of players/prospects) to fetch him.

I also doubt that would get it done. I think if you added Hudson to the deal, we might be able to get both for Jones, Marshall, Marmol, Patterson, and maybe someone like Moore, Aardsma, or Ryu. But I do think Andruw would be ideal for CF next year. But if we cant get him, who here thinks that Lofton has another good year in him? If we sign him in CF and Soriano at 2B I think we'd have a much improved lineup.

Andruw is much more available than Wells. Toronto is now talking about keeping Wells this season, with or without an extension.

Atlanta has a lot of money tied up in Jones and knows they aren't likely to keep him beyond this year. JS is a shrewd GM and likely will try to get something for him instead of letting him walk. How much he can get remains to be seen.

I think the Cubs would have a good shot at him as the Braves would want some of the Cubs young pitchers. I do think the Cubs could work a deal for Jones without giving up Pie.

It's actually worse than that - don't forget the $15M per season they owe Mike Hampton over the next 2 seasons, the $6M per season they owe Edgar Renteria over the next 2 seasons and the $6.5M they owe Wickman next season. The Braves owe 7 players $65.5M next season (Hampton, Andruw, Chipper, Smoltz, Renteria, Hudson and Wickman).

They almost have to make a move to shed some payroll.

Under what fantasy-world scenario would Andruw Jones ever - EVER! - permit himself to be traded to the woeful Chicago Cubs?

10 and 5, babydoll...

Well, unless Andruw Jones is not very bright, he should be able to recognize the difference having Derrek Lee in the line-up would make. He can also understand how well Rich Hill performed in August and September. He likely won't be traded until later in the off season, so he would know if the Cubs resigned Ramirez and signed a good starting pitcher. If they have, the addition of himself would make the Cubs legitimate contenders. I think he has the ability to see that.

Theriot/FA 2B

Murton

Lee

A. Jones

Ramirez

J. Jones

Barrett

Izturis/Cedeno

Zambrano

FA starter

Hill

Prior

Miller (if resigned)/Mateo/Marshall/Guzman/Marmol

It's a very right-handed line-up, but its a far superior one to any the Cubs have had in the last 20+ years. If Prior returns to form, the division would almost be a forgone conclusion.
