Thread title says it all

Cubs manager Dusty Baker will find out Monday morning whether the organization wants him back, Chicago general manager Jim Hendry said Saturday.

Baker's four-year contract is expiring, and the Cubs were tied with Pittsburgh for the National League's worst record at 65-95 after Friday's 5-2 loss to Colorado.

"He's been involved in the game in a positive way for a long time," said Hendry, who received a two-year contract extension that runs through 2008 in early April. "He's got a great track record as a player. He's been a good manager for a long time. And I hate to see a lot of the negativity in any way, shape or form. We've all had a hand in the bad season we've had."

Hendry would not say if he has already made a decision.

There is part of me that wants to see it announced that Baker is coming back. The sheer entertainment value of the inevitable NSBB meltdown would almost be worth it.

Almost...but not quite.

I'm not looking forward to new threads every five minutes about a different NSBB member in the hospital after a heart attack. I like everyone here, I don't want to see them keel over and die Monday morning, especially after all the work that went into surviving this season.

Seriously....I thought the Nomar trade brought the site down bad. Actually now that I think about it, it would just sink Cubs fans further down into apathy.

Honestly, with everything hes taken, and how much pride he has for himself, I bet if the Cubs offered him a contract, he'd turn it down.

On Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times' back page showed Baker's head on a piece of toast popping out of a toaster.

"It disappoints me that someone would waste that much time and space," Baker said.

Dusty doesn't like toast!

If this doesn't end with Dusty and Jim "parting ways" I'm gonna be pissed.

You will now bring Dusty Baker to Detriot.

But seriously... Monday will be like a wedding, graduation, or the Nomar trade. I cant wait.

Fixed.

While I think he is as good as gone, I wouldn't put anything past Hendry.

Fast-forward to Monday, October 2nd

Jim Hendry announces that he will spend the next few weeks "evaluating" the team.

Fast-forward to two weeks later

"Oh, well, we're always evaluating."

The Nationals have announced that the Nats will be looking for a new manager. You don't suppose that they would be interested in Baker?

Me too. If Dusty is the manager next year, I won't be rooting for the Cubs. I'll find another team that actually wants to win.

When I get to work on Monday I better be able to check NSBB and see "DUSTY NOT COMING BACK" as a title somewhere.

Oh, and in preparation for whatever the decision may be, Serena needs to make sure Emergency NSBB is working okay.

I didn't say that...

I don't care if Dusty walks and they hire Jesus Christ as the next manager. I'm not spending one cent on the cubs next year --- no mlb extra innings. . . no mlb audio. . .no mlb.tv. . . . NO game tickets. . . no apparell. .. .. . NOTHING, until they prove to me that they are at least trying to put together a legit major league baseball team.

I will still keep up with them on nsbb or watch on wgn, but I'm just about tired of putting my heart, soul, and money into this P.O.S. organization.

He's supposed to be gone, but hey you never know with Hendry.

Never underestimate Jim Hendry's ability to delude himself.

My ideal Monday? "Cubs sold to Mark Cuban. MacPhail, Hendry, Baker all fired immediately."

Ohhh yeah. Just give me more drugs to keep the delusions rolling.
