Any good rumors on him at all today?

He's been decent for the Cubs (.832 OPS). And considering the Rangers paid most of his salary this year and the Cubs had to only pay close to pro-rated league minimum and he's a free agent after this season, I am really surprised a team in the wild card hunt isn't looking to deal for him as a good power bat off the bench.

I'd like him back off the bench next year. When was the last time we had a power guy to come in late and PH? Randall Simon?

Randall Simon wasn't much of a power guy.

He was in '03 when he was with the Cubs. Sammy was the only Cub who had a better homerun per plate appearance ratio that year.

He was behind Aramis too (15 HR, 232 AB).

But I was referring more to his SLG.

That HR in Game 3 was awesome, though. But nothing beats Sammy's HRs in Games 1 and 2 and Kerry's HR in Game 7 (:().

The Chicago Cubs today traded infielder Phil Nevin and cash considerations to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for a player to be named later.

Hopefully we get another decent raw arm...can't expect much for Nevin, although the Cubs weren't on the hook for much $ when we picked him up, so it's probably not a used jockstrap. We already have one of those in RF anyway.

If we're going to trade backup 1B who we don't want, why not completely and utterly worthless John Mabry instead of actually somewhat productive Phil Nevin?

Because Nevin might have actually given us a player that might possibly do something down the road..Mabry probably wouldn't have. It's not like Nevin's increased production would have done much for our squad the last month of the season-I would have liked to trade both, but Nevin is the better one to deal simply because he is worth more on the market, and they are both worthless to us at this point.
