Hill's deffinatly looking to have some promise. Don't you think? What's your thoughts on Rich Hill right now.

I went to great america today, only to check and find out Hill pitched pretty darn well today. I look foward to every Hill start, because this kids got promise. Well atleast to be in or SR next year as a #5 atleast.

I think he's finally making whatever adjustment he needed to make and is at least going to start resembling his minor league self a little bit. Will he post a 1.8 ERA? No, but he should be an effective middle of the rotation starter for a while, assuming health.

As long as he can keep hitters off-balance, I think he'll be fine.

I could see him being an effective #3 in his prime. I don't see him becoming anything particularly special, but he should be good enough to keep around for the next few years.

he's been the cubs' best starter this month (aka when he finally had some security in the rotation). so yeah, i'd say he's done pretty well...not too shabby for a one pitch AAAA loogy.

He has finally made the mental adjustment aparently. Now he needs to refine his command and develop a good running two seamer. Right now he is going to be ok but, as was pointed out on TV today, everything runs the same direction. IF, IF, IF, he develops a two seamer and can command it the pitch will keep hitters honest and make his curve even more devistating.

Considering Hill's age and the amount of time he's been pitching, I'm guessing that two seamer ain't happening any time soon. It could be that his four seamer looks EXACTLY like his curveballs. It could have to do with his arm angle, delivery, and mechanics. It could be that he tried it and hitters picked up on it really easily.

Whatever the case may be, I don't see it happening. He'll be able to have a good career with his two curves, four seamer, and change.

In other words, assuming Dusty leaves at the end of the year before he has a chance to work his magic and ruin Hill.

Yes he has some promise.. just dont give him Woods spot in the rotation.. if you do he'll get injured... just like Marmol and O'mally did.. LOL

I was one of those who felt Hill's "future" lies as a loogy, but with the way he is pitching, I am rethinking that assesment. Like someone said, I think Hill needs a pitch that goes away from rightes/goes into lefties, or teams are going to figure him out again. But right now, I'm thinking the Cubs should pull their resources, and go after offense (instead of Zito ot Schimdt) instead.

I was one Hill's non-supporters. I'm eating crow now and have no problem doing so. He's looked like a ML pitcher out there the past month. The one postive today was the 2 k's and yet he got the job done. That has to bold well for his learning process and mental approach that he doesn't have to K guys to be effective. I hope he keeps it up. It'll be nice to know we have at least two pitchers (Z and Hill) to work with for next year.

Gooz has only had 1 good start and he needs to stay healthy. He's not someone you can count on. Marshall is coming off a injury and Mateo needs more starts under his belt. We will see if they can step it up for the last month of the season...

i agree but i think marshall & mateo at least will be in the mix. i really like what i've seen from both of them so far. the only ? 's about guz are his health & control. marmol should switch to closer imo.

I am going to have to disagree with you here. Because of his age, (maturity factor), I believe that he could find a pitch easier. He has just experienced a mental change IMO to turn this corner. That should leave him more receptive to more learning/knowledge.

I place Wood as example one. His success came a a young man and came quickly. He learned he has a stud and what he was doing was working. From what I have heard, read, and talked to player development people he is still a very good person; but you cant tell him squat about pitching because he K'd 20. So lets call Hill in all hopefullness an Anti-Wood.

It looks like his strikeouts are up, which is good to see. Hill still needs to learn how to best utilize his curve ball at the major league level, though.

I rather suspect that given more time to mature and develop he'll do that. In fact, and I know you'll agree, he *should* have been given the time *this* season to do so, rather than be yo-yoed back and forth.

Yeah. Of course, with the way things worked out, Hill might have been fortunate that his curve ball was so bad in his first game or two back. He probably gained some confidence in his fastball.

At the expense of innings for Glendon earlier in the year? Are you insane
