PCL Notebook"]Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs)

THE WEEK THAT WAS: The I-Cubs went 2-5 last week, winning their last two games. They are 65-64 overall, good for second in the American North Division.

THE PENNANT CHASE: Iowa is four games behind first-place Nashville.

WHO'S HOT/WHO'S NOT: CF Felix Pie has hit .364 in his last 10 games with two homers, three RBIs and seven runs scored. ... The catching combo of Geovany Soto (.227) and Jose Reyes (.118) has combined to bat .179 in the last 10 contests.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "I called [my brother] Corey last night when I heard I was being promoted. He told me to be myself and not to do anything differently than I'd been doing all year." --Cubs 2B Eric Patterson to the Des Moines Register. He took the advice of his older brother, a former I-Cub who plays for Baltimore, by homering in his first at-bat with Iowa.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK, PART II: "This game falls on me. I made a bad decision in the first inning trying to score [Michael] Restovich. We tried to play hit-and-run, but everything I did tonight wound up being a poor decision. Sometimes you have to look in the mirror and say, 'You know what? You managed a bad game.'" --Manager Mike Quade to the Des Moines Register after a loss at Round Rock on Aug. 16. .

SL Notebook"] West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (Chicago Cubs)

THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Diamond Jaxx inched their way closer to .500 by going 3-2 last week, bringing their record to 27-28, good enough for fourth place in the competitive SL North Division.

WHO'S HOT, WHO'S NOT: SL pitchers have been wanting less of Scott Moore lately. The 22-year-old third baseman is working on six-game hit streak while collecting eight RBIs. ... Lincoln Holdzkom has been strong out of the bullpen since rejoining West Tenn in early August. The right-hander from Pasedena, Calif., made two appearances this week, got the win in one and struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Jake Fox doesn't seem realize that catchers are supposed to wilt during the hot August months in the SL. The 24-year-old Indiana native is having one of his best months this year, batting .340 in 13 games with a pair of home runs, nine RBIs while handling a pitching staff with the lowest ERA in the league (2.86).

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: Moore played "Hero of the Day" for West Tenn on Saturday as he had his first multi-homer game of the season. Moore launched a two-run homer in the first inning, but his biggest shot came with one out in the ninth when he connected off Mobile reliever Leonel Rosales for a walk-off solo home run.

FSL Notebook"] Daytona Cubs (Chicago Cubs)

THE WEEK THAT WAS: The third-place Cubs went 2-4 on the week and are currently just one game behind St. Lucie in the FSL's East Division.

WHO'S HOT/WHO'S NOT: Stephen Bronder is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his last three relief appearances. Matt Craig is hitting .476 (10-for-21) in his past five games. Jake Muyco has collected just one hit over his last 15 at-bats.

A WONDERFUL ENDING: The Cubs' first win of the week came on Wednesday, as Ryan Harvey's 12th-inning homer lifted Daytona to a 5-4 win over Sarasota. The dinger was Harvey's league-leading 19th of the season.

WELCOME ABOARD: Outfielder Jeremy Williams made his debut with the Cubs on Saturday, and it was a memorable one. The 23-year-old's three-run homer in the fourth inning lifted Daytona to a 5-4 win over Palm Beach.

MWL Notebook"]Peoria Chiefs (Chicago Cubs)

THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Chiefs, with a 3-4 week, held on to fourth in the West but dropped to 7 1/2 games back.

WHO'S HOT/WHO'S NOT: Ryan Lilly is 9-for-21 (.429) with three homers and four RBIs in four games, and 1B Alberto Garcia is 11-for-31 (.355). CF Davy Gregg is 0-for-16 and 3-for-36 (.083).

MESSY BUT GOOD: RHP Joel Santo, the winning pitcher in the Chiefs' last road victory July 26, gave up five runs in five innings but earned the decision in a 9-5 victory at Wisconsin that ended the team's seven-game losing streak on the road. Talk about sloppy: Wisconsin committed five errors, and the pitching staffs combined for seven wild pitches.

RATTLER ROUSER: His seven hits in four games against Wisconsin last week made 1B Ryan Norwood 24-for-57 (.421) against Timber Rattlers pitching this season.

BUSSIE BLUES: Travel problems plagued the Chiefs on Friday going from Appleton, Wisc., to Battle Creek, Mich. According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, their bus driver couldn't find the hotel, and the team didn't arrive until 6 a.m. Then there was an issue with their reservations that took half the morning to clear up. Manager Jody Davis canceled batting practice so the players could sleep, and they got to C.O. Brown Stadium less than two hours before the 7:35 p.m. start. The game proved a disaster, as Southwest Michigan's Mike Wlodarczyk and Celso Rondon combined on a no-hitter, 12-0. Davis called it "a perfect ending to a perfectly [expletive] day...We just have to laugh at it and move on." Peoria bounced back to win 4-2 the next day.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "The first couple at-bats I wasn't seeing the ball that much. I was joking around with the boys, saying I was going to hit with my sunglasses on. That was the first time I'd ever put sunglasses on, and sure enough I put them on and hit the first home run. Everybody was telling me, 'Let me use them.' I said, 'Well, let me try it again.' The second time, I got one out again. It was not me. It was all the sunglasses." -- SS Ryan Lilly told the Peoria Journal Star after hitting the first two homers of his pro career, in the same game against Burlington.

NWL Notebook"]Boise Hawks (Chicago Cubs)

THE WEEK THAT WAS: The Hawks went 3-2 last week, bringing their overall record to 33-26, first in the East Division.

WHO'S HOT: C Matthew Canepa is 9-for-18 with two RBIs in his last seven games. 3B Elvin Puello has hit .481 in his last nine games, going 13-for-27 with two RBIs and five runs scored.

WHO'S NOT: CF Alfred Joseph has recorded just one hit in his last 22 at-bats, averaging .045 through the last nine games.

PLAYER TO WATCH: SS Matt Matulia has been heating up lately, hitting .343 with one home run and seven RBIs in his last 10 games.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK: LF Tyler Colvin was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in Friday's 5-1 win over Vancouver.

Felix Pie: 1 for 4, R, 2 strikeouts

Eric Patterson: 3 for 4, 2 R, RBI, SB, strikeout

That's a nice line for Marshall. Any ideas when he'll be called back up to the big show? Do we even want to bring him back up and further tax his arm this season?

I'm guessing they'll wait til Sept 1 when rosters expand. Best case scenario for him is he comes up this weekend and starts in O'Malley's or Rusch's spot (assuming he goes tommorow for Marmol). If they wait til Sept 1, that's only 1 more start he's out anyway.

Rusch doesn't have a spot in the rotation. Right now it's Zambrano, Hill, O'Malley, Guzman, and Mateo (I didn't try to list them in order). If he does come up before rosters expand I'd think it would be for O'Malley.
