Just finished watching the West Ham defeat. My jaw dropped for about 10 seconds. Amazing.

Final scores from today

Barcelona 1, Liverpool 0

Valencia 0, Inter Milan 0

Roma 2, Lyon 0

Chelsea 2, FC Porto 1

Aggregate

Liverpool 2, Barcelona 2 (Liverpool advances on away goals)

Valencia 2, Inter Milan 2 (Valencia advances on away goals)

Roma 2, Lyon 0

Chelsea 3, FC Porto 2

Teams in bold advance to the quarterfinals.

I would say 3 of those 4 results are upsets. This thing is wide open. I'm glad the Blues advanced and they actually plays fairly well. I hope Chelsea stays away from Liverpool in the quarters, Roma would be nice.

Manchester United, up 1-0 today and 2-0 on aggregate over Lille, and Bayern Munich, up 2-0 today and 4-3 on aggregate over Real Madrid, appear to have clinched berths in the final 8. One goal will not send Madrid through as will need two goals to advance because Bayern has 2 away goals.

AC Milan-Celtic (0-0 today and aggregate) and Arsenal/PSV Endhoven (1-0 Arsenal today and 1-1 aggregate) would go to extra time if these results stood.

EDIT: And right after I type this, PSV puts in a goal to essentially secure them a spot in the final 8. They have an away goal now so a 2-1 win by Arsenal (making it 2-2 on aggregate) won't be enough. Arsenal will now have to score 2 in the final 6 minutes to advance.

great run and perfect center by ronaldo... barring a miracle comeback, man u should be through to the quarters

That was superb run by Ronaldo. The guy would be considered such a better player and would be a much popular player around the world if he didn't dive so much. But as it stands now, he's know just as much for his skill with the ball at his foot as he is for his penchant for diving.

It was also horrendous marking by Lille as Larson was in the middle of a triangle of Lille defenders all of whom were 5-10 yards away from Larson.

yeah, the pass was right on the mark, but no way he should've been that open... at least one guy, maybe two, blew an assignment. Lille wasn't really generating a whole lot anyway.

Real Madrid pull one back with 7 minutes to go on a penalty kick by Ruud van Nistelrooy. Two red cards were given as well, one to each team on second yellow cards to both players. I'm still bitter ESPN2 picked the Man U-Lille match over this one.

To those of you with Fox Soccer Channel: watch the West Ham vs. Tottenham match from today. Best game I've seen all year.

It's on tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM central time. Tape it.

That goes for you guys that don't like soccer. Watch this match and you'll see what sort of game it can be.

This game is on FSN right now, it's in the 59th minute.

Holy crap that second Tottenham goal is unreal.

Yep. Lennon is awesome.

That was a fantastic touch on the ball. Just awesome.

Lennon gives England a point of attack that they desperately need, whereas Beckham just slows them down and limits them in comparison.

It's hard to attack well internationally without pace on the flanks. Beckham's skill with dead balls and restarts is noted, but when Lennon played in Germany, you saw a totally different dynamic to their attack.

Quarterfinals of the Champions League Draw:

4/3:

Milan v. Bayern

PSV v. Liverpool

4/4:

Roma v. Manchester United

Chelsea v. Valencia

1st leg home team listed first.

Return legs are on 4/11 and 4/11.

Personally, I like Chelsea's matchup with Valencia, I would have preferred the home leg second, but I'll take an easier team rather than homefield advantage. I wanted nothing to do with Man U or Liverpool yet. All the games should be good, but Milan and Bayern is probably the best of the bunch.

Random note: why does the U.S. refer to dates such as March 9th as 3/9 when Europe (if not most of the world), refers to it as 9/3?

Man U. Awesome.

I don't think Roma are going to enjoy Cristiano Ronaldo very much. He's playing at a very high level.

I'm sure they won't. Still pumped.

I don't think Man U are going to enjoy Mancini and Taddei very much either.

Also, here are the potential semifinal matchups:

Semi-finals [April 24/25 & May 1/2]

Chelsea/Valencia v PSV/Liverpool

Roma/Man Utd v Milan/Bayern Munich

I often wonder that. I do my dates such as, 1994-08-29, just because if you wanted to put them in a spreadsheet, mine would still be chronological when you sorted them.

Looks like FSC will carry about 140 Italian Serie A matches each season. They signed a 3-year deal.
