i love the crappy AP postgame writeups:

"Cooper, who was nearly offside, scored on a breakaway in the 80th minute."

What incredible insight. Really gives me a picture of that goal.

USSoccer.com[/url]"]The U.S. tacked on an impressive third goal in the 80th minute, with 6-foot-3 forward Kenny Cooper streaking with the ball for 30 yards as three Danish players chased him from behind. As he approached the top of the area and the pressure from behind intensified, Cooper easily beat Christiansen with a slow roller into the right side of the goal. The breakaway for Cooper came courtesy of a through ball from Heath Pearce, who plays professionally in Denmark for FC Nordsjælland.

Latest rumor out of England and Belgium has Oguchi Onyewu transferring to Chelsea within the next week.

I'm excited about this move because Gooch is my favorite player on the US National Team and Chelsea is my club in Europe. Chelsea is in desperate need for a strong central defender, since John Terry has been out for over a month with a back injury. They've looked absolutely dreadful, including a patheic showing Saturday vs. Liverpool in Anfield, 2-0 and it wasn't close.

Hopefully JT comes back this week and they bring in Gooch to play next to him, pushing Paulo Ferriera to the right back and pushing Michael Essien back to his traditional middle field position.

That would be an impressive move.

I hate Chelsea but I like this move for him assuming he plays on a regular basis. Still its a nice little upgrade for him from the almost Fulham move he made.

Also reported Chicago missed out on signing Zidane, as they did try to lure him out of retirement. Had MLS signed Beckham and Zidane in the same month that would have been a huge upswing for the league prior to the season opening. Still with that being said I am very happy to see them attempting something.

Clint Dempsey came on on Fulham's match yesterday in the 81st minute.

I can't wait to see him do his first dance after he scores his first goal in England :-)

I think Gooch will get regular time (at least this season) at Stamford Bridge. Their back four have been terrible this year and they've been in desperate need for a strong center back since the summer. Hopefully Gooch shows the quality to maintain his place with the first team. If he's only so-so this season, Chelsea will bring someone in this summer for a full-time replacement.

The Fire also went after Henrik Larsson and Brian McBride, but no luck.

I am somewhat suprised MLS didn't make a run at Jared Borgetti, perhaps to play for Chivas USA as a counterweight to Beckham. Borghetti hardly plays for Bolton.

Thankfully, this is not the roster that will start qualifying for 2010.

I'll be interested to see if Demspey and Gooch will be available for the game vs Mexico in a couple weeks.

No Dempsey or Onyewu on the roster for Mexico. Twellman is the only new addition.

Suprised no attempt at Rolnaldo.

Dempsey and Gooch could be 2 of the 8 players Bradley requested to be released from club duty. If you look at that espn.com article, none of the foriegn based players are on it-just the MLS guys.

My money says the 8 are Cherundolo, Bocanegra, Beasley, Howard, Dempsey, Hahnneman, Convey and Cory Gibbs.

In addition to the 26 players arriving in California on Thursday, Bradley has also submitted releases for eight U.S. players based in Europe. Per FIFA rules, requests for the release of players must be sent no later than 15 days prior to match day. The final decision on which European-based players will travel to Phoenix will be made the week prior to the Mexico game.

Feb 7th is a fixture date, so getting the release of all 8 shouldn't be an issue.

I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I thought Borghetti already tranferred out of Bolton. IIRC, he's in Saudi Arabia.

According to his Wikipedia page, he's playing for Cruz Azul, which is my mistake, as I didn't realize he'd left Bolton.

I've been doing some more digging about Gooch and it looks like Lyon is possibly making a move for him as well. It definitley looks like his stock is rising around the world.

I hope that wherever he ends up, he plays.

I'm going to assume you meant isn't a fixture date.

I've read that it was an international fixture date. Am I mistaken?

I don't know the specifics but I know Chelsea has a match on the 10th of February.

10th February in the English Leagues (I'm watching Gillingham vs. Bradford)

FIFA's fixture page - there's a fair few internationals on the 7th; including England vs. Spain. It must be an international date.
