Definitely love the tie, but I feel a bit bad for Costa Rica. I saw it was in the 5th minute of stoppage time, how many minutes of stoppage time were there? Couldn't be much more than 5. Poor Costa Ricans, at least they still have a shot.

5 minutes of stoppage. Ended up being more since CR was stalling and subbing.

We were very unlucky not to beat them 4-2 (or more). We had a ton of early chances and simply didn't finish.

Yeah it was one of those weird games. We mostly dominated the play and had a lot of real close chances where we either missed a virtual easy goal or their goalie made a great save. They had few chances but made the shot when it counted. Kinda feel bad for Costa Rica but part me sees as payback for trying stalling tactics so blatant they got a coach sent off for it.

Conor Casey is on my ish list for not taking a touch and scoring an absolute sitter....just as the clock hit the 9th minute. That would have been awesome. Instead, it was a fricking howler.

I'm not liking this business of 2 of our best players at their positions getting hurt thing.

Holden isn't ready to start. He should play the Aaron Lennon WC2006 role and come on for Clint next summer.

Benny had a poor game.

Torres looked really good in the center of the pitch. We should use Camp Cupcake to try him with Mikey.

Costa Rica shouldn't have had any business winning that game. We should have blown them out, but our finishing was U-14 esque.

Adrain Healy should be the PBP guy from now on. Even Harkes kept the stupid in check last night.

Finally, congrats to Honduras. They deserved the automatic spot, and with the way their players and fans showed pure class last weekend, I would say it's a just reward.

He really has no excuse for missing this one. The worst part was that he was not even remotely close. He had a chance to turn and shoot a couple of minutes later but let the ball through for Donovan. Not that it wasn't the right decision, but a goal scorer would not have passed up that shot.

I kind of liked what Cooper did the few minutes he played. But he still needs to learn how to use his size and strength to his advantage. I still think he could become a very good striker for us, and the Germany is a great fit for him.

Torres was great. Rodgers was also solid, but his finishing was poor.

And yes Healy is great, I really enjoyed listening to him.

That's awesome and hilarious.

Audio reaction of the Honduran broadcast of Bornstein's goal:

That made the hair on my neck stand up. For some reason, it always gets me when you hear home announcers go apeshit over a huge game/match.

I'm happy the US got in to the World Cup, but I know so little about soccer I have no idea what USSoccer is saying in this sentence.

Conor Casey = the guy who replaced Charlie Davies in the starting lineup.

Touch = using your body to settle the ball into a manageable spot.

Sitter = Easy chance to score.

Howler = Ridiculous mistake that no player should ever make.

So basically, right in the 9th minute when the tribute for #9 jersey wearer Charlie Davies was about to start with a full minute of applause from the fans, the guy who replaced Charlie misses a goal scoring opportunity that Charlie would have absolutely buried. Fans should have had a minute of fitting ecstasy to honor Charlie, but instead Casey somehow managed to biff it.

The chance was actually at the end of the 9th minute... (8:01-9:00 was the 9th minute). People pretty much cheered though both the 9th and 10th in some confusion. :D

Michael Bradley = American Roy Keane.

I'm not talking in terms of ability, because in those terms he's a poor man's Roy Keane. I'm just talking about the attitude.

The game wasn't meaningless to Michael Bradley, who started the comeback from a 2-0 deficit with his goal in the 72nd minute. "When you're a competitor and you step on the field you want to win," Bradley said afterward. "The feeling of winning is something you can't take away. So in the 95th minute when Jonny Bornstein scores a header and he's running toward the corner and it's 2-2 and we fought like bastards to get it to 2-2, good luck telling anybody on our team that it was meaningless."

The U-20 final was pretty entertaining. Disappointing effort from Brazil considering they were up a man for about 55 minutes of regulation plus the 30 minutes of extra time and couldn't score a goal.

I went on a bit of a World Cup highlights binge today on youtube.

USA-Mexico 2002

USA-Portugal 2002

USA-Korea 2002. I only post this one because the finish by Clint Mathis is outstanding. Perfect trap, doesn't mess around with the ball and quickly fires it low into the corner.

European WC playoff draw:

France-Ireland

Portugal-Bosnia

Russia-Slovenia

Greece-Ukraine

I hope France get bounced just to get FIFA back for seeding this at the last minute.

Greece/Ukraine is going to be a good one. The others won't be close.

[expletive].

I knew there was a 75% chance that Ireland would get either France, Portugal or Russia and probably get bounced but I was still hoping for that 25% chance to come through.

Here's an interesting article regarding how FIFA would likely set up the pods for group assignment.

So...go Costa Rica and Bahrain, I guess.

Not a bad group to hopefully advance through, Group A looks like it has the potential to be brutal. Another win over Spain would be nice too.
