The Tigers board where the link for the player we recieved was from hates this trade. The best coment so far is; "Wait, you mean we traded for the worst player in baseball?"

I have zero sympathy. When all is said and done, they have a fantastic team they can bury Neifi in.

I wouldn't give up half a pack of sunflower seeds for this guy. The Tigers just traded for the worst player in baseball. What a terrible trade.

You beat me to posting that one.

By the way, here are Dave Dombrowski's comments about Neifi according to one Detroit message board.

"Perez move helps for next year b/c he is a utility guy. Switch hitter etc. Real good fit for us.

-Tigers didn't consider a move for Mark Loretta b/c pitching has got us(Tigers) here."

What is really funny is we got more for Neifi than we did for Todd Walker.

I disagree. Robinson certainly is a nice prospect, but I prefer Ceda.

I really like Dave Drombrowski but this is not a good move for the Tigers.

Without a doubt.

So the very last team who could have taken him did, right?

Did the Tigers claim him, or did he pass through and were we able to convince Detroit to take him?

sweet, maybe now NSBBers will stop bringing Neifi into every thread regardless of topic

"So this Ryne Malone kid at Peoria looks pretty good"

"WELP WE ALL KNOWS UDSTYS HORSES NEIFI SEASONED VETERENAN "

"JIM HEDNRY SHOULDNT EVER CALL HMI UP EVEN IN A FEW YERAS NEIIFIS ONE OF DUSTYS 'DUDES' HE NDEEDDS HIS HORSES"

I'm sure he probably passed through waivers initially. Neifi was probably put on waivers along with players like Nevin and Mabry at the beginning of August after the trading deadline. Nobody probably claimed him then, and then the Tigers came calling after Neifi when Polanco got hurt. I've seen mixed reviews on Robinson so far, but he looks like he could end up coming up in a couple years and being a cheap backup catcher-that's what I would imagine would be his reasonable upside at this point, although others could probably give better information than I can on this subject.

Now that Dusty's favorite toy is gone, I hope Dusty won't be far behind.

With 8 pages (already) on Neifi being traded, can you imagine the length of the thread when Dusty gets fired?

Dusty said:

"Neifi came to play," Baker said. "I know he was maligned some, but he came to play every day. He stayed ready, he worked hard. Neifi's an asset to any team. We hate to lose him."

Dave Dombrowski said:

"He's (Neifi Perez) a legitimate everyday guy and an outstanding utility player," said Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski.

Robinson, who was hitting .286 with one home run and 47 RBIs at Class A Lakeland, will move on to Class A Daytona. Dombrowski said that Robinson projected as a backup catcher at the Major League level.

Personally I think Neifi can help a team that uses him correctly. Something Baker isn't capable of doing.

Everyday guy? Tigers fans are going to love that.

Anyone know how a guy who was described as:

#26 – Chris Robinson – Catcher

This University of Illinois product is the organizational hope as the successor to Ivan Rodriguez. Drafted in the third round of this year’s draft, Robinson has a relatively advanced approach at the plate, and should hit for average and get on base at a decent clip quickly. There is some potential for future power to develop, but Robinson will never be considered a true power threat. Overall, Robinson is a solid offensive prospect, with outstanding defensive tools.

drops to a projected backup catcher in the course of one year?

I don't have any expectations (after all he came back for Neifi) but am curious as to how anyone who was an all-star in the Florida State League this year has his projections drop off that far so quickly.

What wonderful news to get today!

In all seriousness, it's not the Neifi that was hated; it was the usage of said Neifi. Maybe Leyland will use the Neifi in a manner in which it was intended to be used.

That said, good riddance and never, ever come back to Wrigley in any capacity, Neifi. I'll be thrilled to never see your craptacular swing designed for double plays, and I'm ecstatic to never again see you insert yourself in a conference at the mound again.

So little to be happy about this year, but this is a good day. Now if only someone will take Izturis off our hands.

I'm amazed we got as much as we did. Robinson doesn't sound too bad at all, relative to Neifi's worth. Even if we ate part of 2007's salary I'm okay with it.
