I've been "roughing it" at my friend's lakehouse this weekend, and we never turned on a tv or computer. This is great news.

BTW, has anyone mentioned that this could possibly make the Izturis trade a bit more palatable? I still don't want Izzy and Cedeno playing together in the MI, but Izturis would be an acceptable option at SS if we were to upgrade offensively at 2B. I don't feel quite as bad about paying Izturins 4 million next season since Neifi's 2.5 milliion is off the books.

No, instead of paying 7 million for historically bad OPS, the Cubs are only paying 4.5 million. Better, but hardly enough to boost the performance of this GM in the past 365 days past an F.

I'm pretty sure the Cubs just locked up the 2007 division title.

It's so funny to see people flat out lie when talking up their newest acquisition.

No one's going to say "We picked up a guy today who is arguably the worst offensive player in the history of the game-World Series, here we come!"

I just hope that if we upgrade at second base that we give Ronny a fair chance to beat out Expensive Arthritic Piece of Crap next year for shortstop, because I think he could pretty easily do it.

I realize the motivation, it's just funny to see it in practice. The question is always, do they believe what they are saying or do they just feel obligated to say that?

I was a big advocate for getting Ronnie Belliard this offseason.

More than likely the Cardinals will lock him up now this offseason.

They ddin't give up much for him(luna)

But then again..Belliard has a decent career OBP which probably was

a turnoff to Dumpster Diving Hendry.

Has it been confirmed that the Tigers are picking up all of Nefei's contract next year? Did he pass through waviers?

The Tigers are picking up his contract.

The Cubs will save about $500,000 on Perez's 2006 salary, and they're completely off the hook for his $2.5 million salary in '07.

I still can't fathom the fact that a GM(besides Donuts) would pay 2.5

mil for Neifi and give up a prospect.

one man's trash is another man's treasure.

ain't it the truth.

Thanks.

Bah, great deal for the Cubs.

Let me ask you a question..do you see the Cardinals making a move

to re-sign Belliard this offseason?

Yes, the plan is to re-sign Belliard. We'll see how that works out.

It does help until I see Izturis hitting 2nd in the lineup and then I just think here we go again.

Well if Dusty gets replaced, then that will hopefully take care of that issue...

Really need to dump Izturis and Rusch, then that would be some genuine progress. Izzy + Rusch + Neifi = $10MM in '07 money, that would just about cover a Barry Zito salary. I don't think we can be so lucky with Fat Glendon, we're stuck with him, but I'm hoping we can move Izturis in the offseason. Trade for Tejada and then things would definitely be looking up!

Izturis has won a gold glove and made the all star team once and Hendry thinks he pulled a coup by getting him. He ain't going anywhere.

I don't think Hendry views Izturis as untouchable. I think he'd go in the right deal.

I can't see him moving though. There's way too many pieces Hendry would part with before Izturis, and not many teams are going to really want Izturis anyway.

Like no one wanted Perez?

Izturis at least has some value in that there is a notion (due to his relatively young age) that he could become at least decent at the plate. He's not Tejada, but he might have some value in the right deal. For example, how about Izturis, Hill and Moore for Tejada?

Shouldn't that read "one man's trash will likely be another man's trash?" :)

Yeah, I think there are other GMs who think as highly of Izturis as Hendry. I'm holding out hope that he is traded to one of those teams for a legitimate major league player, and not another young Neifi.

It took Jim a long time to get rid of Perez. I think he likes Izturis and is going to keep him through at least 2007. The question is whether he offers and extension or not.

I didn't say he was untouchable. Just that Hendry really believes he's found his SS for 2007 and won't even attempt to deal him. Now if someone makes an offer he can't refuse (Choi for Lee comes to mind) then yeah, he'd probably deal him. Make no mistake it about though, Hendry really likes Izturis.

I think it's totally awesome that we traded Neifi for this guy:

If he can hit like he can sing, I think we're golden. :D BTW, the Black Crowes are awesome.

two pages ago there was a discussion about how GM's don't speak the truth about the players they acquire. the only thing we have to go on to determine Hendry's opinion of any player is what he says. taking both of these as givens, it is impossible to come to the bolded conclusion with the degree of certainty in which you state it.
