I have a feeling with the Cubs season continuing to spiral down the crapper, that we're going to be reaching new levels of Dustyisms that we have not yet seen.

While I hate the futility of this season and wish Theriot and others would get a longer look, I can at least relish that I'm going to see a level of stupidity that I'm not sure I've seen since 1986 or somewhere around that time.

Maybe Baker should answer all interview questions in scat

scat (skăt)

n.

Excrement, especially of an animal; dung.

[Origin unknown.]

I think he already does.

Who is he? Where did he come from?

Dusty Baker = Admiral Stockdale?

Nice reference. Extra points.

The admiral was old and run down from being tortured excessively.

The ones being tortured here are us, not Dusty.

Cubs manager Dusty Baker talked to Zambrano on Saturday about finishing the season strong. Baker cited Steve Carlton as an example of someone who won on a struggling team. Carlton won 27 of the Philadelphia Phillies' 59 games in 1972.

''I talked to him about being a horse and doing what he's capable of doing,'' Baker said. ''He's like the iron man under adverse conditions.

''I talked to him about what it's like for it to be 'win day' when you pitch.''

Bye Carlos...nice knowing you.

i know it's a very small sample size for theriot but i sure like what i've seen for ryan more than ronnie. should the cubs trade cedeno & have theriot & fontenot play 2b next year?

You can't really judge them on their limited major league totals. However, you can look at minor leaue totals.

Theriot, while always being old for his league has career numbers of .265 .355 .331 While the OBP is solid, the slugging leaves much to be desired.

Those are his 5 previous seasons, not including this year.

Cedeno, while being young for his leagues has career numbersof .265 319 .376 Obviously the OBP leaves MUCH to be desired. With his slightly higher SLG, his OPS edges Theriot .692 to .686.

As 2B I don't see either of these guys being anything other than career backups. Cedeno has had one great season(between AAA and MLB) one decent season (AA) and everything else has been bad. Theriot, while showing great plate discipline for the past 4 years has never really had acceptable SLG numbers other than last year at AA. With the right coach and a switch back to SS, Cedeno could become a starter. Unless Theriot develops power next year at the age of 27, hes just a backup.

Fotenot's minor league numbers make him look capable of being a .800 OPS player. He has been a AAA player for three years now and will like Theriot be 27 next season. Maybe he's the best 2B prospect of the three, but he needs to be given a chance soon.

Maybe they will all just brige the gap for Patterson, but he has not lived up to the hype of last year.

ok thank God I can logg on and read some of the post on these boards and laugh till I cry. That post about the deli and the one about scat had me rolling. You guys have at least made this season bareable by making the lemons into lemonade. OMG that was some good stuff. At least if we are going to be bad Baker makes it funny. Every time I see quotes from him I will think of the Chef from Southpark sining in scat. thats all I can picture now rofl.

I would take Theriot's obp over Ronny's SLP personally - if he can play SS. There is absolutely no reason not to play Fontenot now and see what happens. This organization is ridiculous in its failure to evaluate young players. They may all be backups, but they are no worse than neifi or izturis.

Any member of the Rolling Stones - that SNL skit with Mike Myers as Ron Wood is a hoot.

if the cubs are dead set on giving ss to izzy next year (as it looks like they are), i dont see why fontenot couldnt start at 2b with theriot able to sub for either one of them at ss or 2b. of course all of this is contigient on baker & nefi going elsewhere.

Fontenot is lost in some 1973 to 2006 time warp and can't be found. I've sent Sam from Quantum Leap to find him.

Theriot only a few years (2-3?) started hitting right handed full-time...I believe he was an experimental switch hitter before that...you can basically throw those stats out.

Well his past 2-3 years do reflect that as he has had a consistently higher AVG and in turn OBP, but his SLG has yet to catch up. I don't think that his OBP is good enough to ignore his lack of power.

give the kid (Theriot) a chance........i think Chip Caray could do a better job managing this team.....couldnt you just hear him in the dugout,

Caray: (commentation as he manages)"This one's hit deep way back WAY BACK, THIS ONE IS.....

Stone: "caught in shallow center by the shortstop Jose Nieves."

Caray: (back on bench) "Wind must have gotten a hold on that one...(to player) "Jus got under that one didn't you Julio (Zuleta)."

I wonder if MLB has a rule against the Manager doing play by play?
