I thought this would be closer

I like the Beatles, but maybe I'm not old enough to really love them, theyre definately not a top 5 or even top 10 for me. Led Zeppelin however is.

The Beatles were earlier. But for me, Zeppelin was the better band in many ways.

To me, Zep are without a smidgen of doubt the better musicians and performers of the two groups. I think the Beatles were the better songwriters and innovaters. However, I love them both because they are the two bands whom I think deserve the most credit for making rock what it is now. The Beatles pioneered the "rock band" sound, and Zep pioneered the "hard rock" sound. There is a good story in Bob Spitz's enormous book "The Beatles", which came out recently, about John and George going to a London club in 1968 and seeing the newly formed Zep and being floored by them, and i believe John remarked that they were the most powerful rock band he'd ever heard.

As a side note, i was in London the other day and I went by the underground apartment/studio that Ringo rented out to a young and upcoming Jimi Hendrix in 1966. Jimi was then a regular of the club scene in London and had wisely attatched himself to the Beatles who were very fond of his sound, especially since he played Sgt. Pepper on guitar when they walked into a club, only ONE day after the album had been released. Jimi had already memorized it and learned it. Anyways, Ringo had to evict Jimi from the apartment because he had painted the walls black and only used candlelight for he was apparently into the occult at the time. This apartment was later made famous because it is where John and 'Yucko' took their famous nude album cover photo.

Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,

Think I see my friends coming, Riding a many mile.

Friends, did you get some silver?

Did you get a little gold?

What did you bring me, my dear friends, To keep me from the Gallows Pole?

What did you bring me to keep me from the Gallows Pole?

Yeah, I've heard both of them. They "rock" more than the Beatles early stuff, but there's still plenty of songs that aren't exactly hard rock.

Abbey Road has "Something", "Octopus's Garden", "Here Comes the Sun", "Mean Mr. Mustard" and "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window."

The White Album has "Ob-La-Di" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - among others.

Not exactly headbangers ball material. Sorry, but nothing you can say will make me consider the Beates to be, at best, a pop/rock hybrid.
