I guess Hill will be freed.

hu?

He wants Rich Hill on the MLB team and not sent down every time he stinks it up.

Well maybe with the trade of Williamson he will get his wish

I want him to get an extended chance, not 4 starts and back to the minors. He's proven he can handle AAA.

Wuertz was (finally) called up.

With this injury, I bet they call up Hill or Guzman. Then if Prior get hurt again or Maddux gets traded they will call up Wuertz and make Rusch a starter

Can't. Wuertz was already called up when Williamson was traded. I doubt they are going to try Rusch as a starter again.

Let me rephrase that. I WILL KILL them, if the try to make Rusch of a starter again. It's ludicrous when we have guys like Ryu, Hill, and Guzman who should be given a shot.

Transactions: The williamson trade post. Page 2-4 somewhere. 2 people on seperate occasions on that post said that. It's great that he's up. And if they need to get a guy to replace marshall that means they might likely pick HILL!!

Sun-Times is reporting to expect Aardsma to be called up if Marshall is put on the DL. One can assume that Rusch will replace Marshall in the rotation if he does go on the DL.

MOVIN' ON UP: Expect Michael Wuertz and David Aardsma to be called up from Class AAA Iowa today. If Marshall is put on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, as expected, both will be activated. If not, look for Wuertz (6-0, 1.73 ERA) to be activated for today's series finale against the Nationals.

Not so fast, the other paper has a different read on this:

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060722cubsbrite,1,6175565.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines

Triple-A left-hander Rich Hill, 6-1 at Iowa with a 1.94 earned-run average before his scheduled start Saturday night against Memphis, is the likely candidate to replace Marshall when a starter is needed.

Maybe Aardsma is up for 4 days to give help to the the tired bullpen and then back down for Hill to make Marshall's start.

Just my opinion but I'd rather see them just call Hill up now. Let him do his in-between workouts with the better facilities and specifically work with Rothschild on particular things as well as not having to make the last minute trip from Tucson to Chicago compared to an 8th reliever.

They could have him join the team without activating him on to the active roster until he is needed.

You can't do that 5 days in advance. MLB is extremely strict as far as roster moves, especially with a player still on a AAA roster that isn't DL'ed being at the park and traveling w/the major league team.

I agree... call him up now

it is also quite possible that there are several more trades on the burner so who knows what the roster will look like come next week. i am glad to see wuretz & aardsma back up though. hopefully novoa will be on his way out soon to go along with williamson.

AP[/url]"]Right-handed relievers David Aardsma and Michael Wuertz were recalled from Triple-A Iowa to take Marshall's roster spot and to fill the vacancy created when right-hander Scott Williamson was traded to San Diego for two minor leaguers Saturday night.

Serves Hill right for walking a batter last night. Unacceptable.

I guess Hill's comments after the Barrett fiasco really must have Rubbed Hendry the wrong way.

It makes little sense to me. I guess they are showcasing the talents of Rusch hoping to get a taker. As if.

Unfreakingbelievable. This organization is such a joke.

Maybe Hendry fully plans on trading Hill in the next week and doesn't want to diminish his trade value even further by allowing him to suck, like he normally does, in the Cubs rotation.

I don't know, that's the only logical thing I can come up with here.

It could be part of another bullpen shuffle. I suppose there's a "chance" that they could call Hill up in several days.

I'm kidding, of course.
