Bigoted, no way.

What was it he said about Mariotti again? Isolated incident, probably. Wait, was there something about Magglio? Probably just twice. Huh? ARod and Nomar too?

If you think Ozzie was insinuating that Jay was gay, you are mistaken. This subject has been beaten to death, so I find it hard to believe people still think Ozzie was calling him gay. It's a word people use nowadays. It doesn't even mean gay anymore. The people who were the LEAST offended by this was the gay community.

Players, coaches, and White Sox fans all love the guy. It's the fans of every other team that seem to hate him. Must be ring envy. Go figure.

You gotta love people trying to justify bigotry and hate speech based on fandom. :^o

:) Post of the day, lol.

And using a word as offensive and malicious as the one Ozzie used may actually be made worse by the fact that he didn't "mean" it by it's apparently arcane definition of "offensive homosexual slur."

The Sox have sold more tickets thant he Cubs this season.

Since when?

Good question JR. Maybe it happened in that parallel universe where Ozzie is a classy, open-minded genius.

According to the figures I have, the Cubs have outsold the world champs by 35,849...in 4 less games. The Cubs average about 4 thousand more per game.

stats

My fault. I mean they will outsell them by season's end. But that's because of the playoffs, so it's not really fair to compare. My season ticket rep said the Sox have sold 2.6 million so far, and they're guaranteed to break 3 mil for the first time in the new park's history. Last year I thought I read the Cubs sold 2.7 mil.

No, we don't think Ozzie was calling Mariotti a homosexual. That's not the offensive part. The offensive part is that he used a homosexual slur to imply Marriotti is "less of a man", thereby implying that is what he thought of homosexuals. His use of it means he is either an idiot or a bigot or likely both.

How is what he said in the least bit offensive??? Were you offended? Did it make you sad? Did it make you cry? People really need to get off the whole politicly correct kick and grow up!!! Anything and everything is offensive anymore. I am courious if you have ever said; "that is gay", or "dont be gay", or "so and so is gay". If not then I would say you are big time in the minority. Hell, my wife has a gay uncle who says stuff like that, so is he a bigot? Now if I was to say something outrageous like "I think all Gay people should die and go to hell like they deserve" then that would be offensive and I would be a biggot....but for just saying Jay Mariotti is gay, come on now  You are really stretching it to say he thinks of all gay people as lesser men in that context, its a commonly used phrase to insult or put someone down. Sorry for the rant, but I just cant stand all these PC people.

That's not even close. They drew 3,139,322.

I don't know how you can come to that conclusion.

The Cubs are averaging 4,000 more in attendance per game

The Cubs have higher average attendance both at home and on the road.

Last year the Cubs had 3.1 million. And so far this year the Cubs have 1.7 million, and the Sox have 1.6 million, not 2.6.

There's no numbers on tickets sold for the remainder of the season, but there's really no evidence to support your conclusion.

haha I'm sorry. I had the numbers all wrong. I'll be the first to admit it. No reason to be so hostile. Although I will say there's a difference between a sellout at Wrigley and Sox Park. All the tickets are sold at Wrigley, but that doesn't mean everyone shows up. Sox Park relies on about 5,000 walkups to sell out a game, so they usually are completely sold out (that is, when they do sell out).

But sorry guys, I'm done. I thought I'd give the real Cub fans a chance, and this is how I'm greeted. I tried to be nice but you've all backed up a lot of Cub fan stereotypes. I didn't even start this argument in the first place. I don't want to get nasty on a Cub fan board, because that's stupid.

And save the "you'll be missed" posts.

See you in the playoffs! Oh wait...

When you make repeated misstatements of fact on this board, you will always be greeted with what may appear to be hostility. Some folks just can't take being corrected. Oh well. And please, do not flatter yourself. You will not be missed in the least.

I'm not sure what was hostile in my post...I simply said the facts don't support your conclusion. Hope you find whatever you're looking for, because I'm not quite sure what that is.

No one was hostile. We supported our arguments and you didn't. And your post here tells me all I need to know about you.

And you won't be missed. And if we backed up "sterotypes" by being knowledgeable and calling out a bigot when we see one, well kudos for us.

"[expletive]" is a slur, plain and simple. He could have used countless other terms to demean his manhood that had nothing to do with sexual orientation. It offended me. Your wife's gay uncle is using the word to take ownership of a derogatory term and thereby lessen it's impact . Whether or not, that's appropriate is hugely debately in that community much in the same way blacks debate the use of the word "[expletive]".

Vance is a grown seemingly intelligent man and I doubt he uses the term "gay" in the context you asked. I know when I was in Jr. High I used the phrase and it was nothing less than bigoted and ignorant even though I didn't wish harm to an actual gay person. Using that term that way implies that there is something negative to being gay, once I matured and realized this, I stopped using it and embarassed by my immature actions.

The irony is that he sees "hostility" in the responses to his posts, but sees no "hostility" in Ozzie's retort to Mariotti.

Also, what is QFT? I've seen it a few times and have no idea what the acronym stands for.

I've been trying to figure it out too, but I think I just did. I think it stands for Quoted For Truth.

First of all I didnt really pay much attention to the whole Ozzie thing (was on vacation), but if he said "Marrioti is a [expletive]" instead of gay, then that is a whole different thing. I was under the impression he said gay and I was arguing that saying something like that doesnt automaticly make you a biggot (its common slang nowdays), but like I said "[expletive]" is something completely different.

He called Mariotti a "f---ing [expletive]."

I appologize, I never knew he used "[expletive]" and that is a hateful comment, and I wouldnt tolerate it. The word "gay" is not a hate word and that was what I was arguing. I just got the context of the original message messed up so once again I appologize if I was giving the wrong impression.
