I don't think this is as bad as some people are making it out to be. Lopez looks like he's a pretty good player, but Kearns is having a solid but unspectacular season in what has been a very tumultuous career.

In return the Reds got a couple of good, young arms for the pen and an underused and probably underappreciated infielder. Depending on Cinci's options in the OF and at short, this may not be a bad deal for them.

When the Reds run out Royce Clayton, starting SS on a regular basis it will be a very bad deal for them.

I was referring to Brendan Harris with that quote, actually. If Clayton starts, it definitely is a problem for them.

i think you overestimate the importance of guys that throw 2 innings a week and post mid-high 3 era's and 1.3-1.4 whips. guys like that aren't extremely hard to find.

I don't understand where people are getting the notion that Phillips will be switched to SS from. Was there a quote somewhere from Cinci saying this? If their problem with Lopez was his D, they could've just switched him and Phillips if they were comfortable with Phillips at SS.

Like, I said, it depends on their situations in the OF and at short. Freel is not much of a dropoff from Kearns, if at all. Since Clayton is starting, short is taking a huge hit, but if they had a better option it wouldn't be nearly so bad.

Don't ask me, I never said such a thing.

And Freel is still not in the lineup.

Thats interesting. I wonder if they would move him for more pitching. Williamson + Hill for Freel?

Depending on what we do the offseason Freel could start at 2B, SS, or CF for us next year.

Hendry did say Hill was going to get another chance but he didn't say with who.

Do you think Jim Bowden took a little pleasure in thoroughly robbing the organization that fired him in 2003? If not, perhaps he should, because he just pushed the Reds to the back of the NL playoff queue, and in the process picked up three players who entered the Reds' organization while he was their GM.

With this trade, I doubt we'll have to trade anywhere near that much for Freel.

Makes me wonder if Rusch for Dunn is in the works yet.

From reading the final page of the thread in regards to this trade, it seems that overall they like the move. A couple reasons that I read were that it improves their bullpen and simply because they have a GM willing to make bold moves.

If "bold" means stupid, they're right.

I still can't believe it. If it was just Felipe Lopez and Ryan Wagner for the pitchers, it'd be bad. If it was just Kearns and Wagner for the pitchers, it'd be bad. But Kearns, Lopez, and Wagner for them?

Amazing.

I didn't realize the Reds were giving away free good players today.
Unfortunately, Hendry got to the store five minutes after the special expired.

“We paid a steep price,” Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky said. “I’m sure this will be a controversial trade. I know a lot of people will be leaving nasty messages on my voicemail, and I’ll have some who think it’s great.”

Yes, even Wayne knows he got screwed.

Which is hilarious...why do the deal if you know it stinks?

Krivsky chugged into the break vowing to do anything he could to keep the Reds in the pennant race.

Thursday's bold blockbuster trade with the Washington Nationals showed he wasn't just telling fans what they wanted to hear.

"You're comfortable with it, you do it," Krivsky said. "You don't wait."

that's right folks. if you have a good feeling about it, don't think about it, just do it!!!!
