Eagles released Todd Pinkston and brought back Jay Feely.

George Offman says the Bears have little to no interest in Pinkston.

Not to be nitpicky but they signed A.J. Feeley the QB. Not Jay the kicker, at least not that I've heard.

Sorry...you're right. Brain fart.

How could you possibly mistake a great player like A.J.? :)

the only good thing about AJ Feeley is Heather Mitts... http://www.heathermitts.com/gallery.htm:) , and the Jeff George signing may not be that bad, it seems that Randall Cunningham had a rather good year throwing deep to Randy Moss, and Jerry Porter, if he ever gets his head out of his butt, could be the Cris Carter (though not nearly as good) for George, and like him or not, he throws one heck of a deep ball

Wow! I had no idea they were married. Now I wish the Titans had signed him. :D

SI has picked Carolina again, the NFL Preview arrived today.

Where do they have the Bears? Is it Dr Z picking?

My assumption is that it is Dr. Z, doesn't say so on the page though. It has the Bears winning 11 games and the division before bowing out to Carolina in the 2nd round (they have them as the 3 seed and Carolina as the 2).

The most humorous part to the picks was them picking Indy as the best AFC team and then picking them to lose the AFC title game at home to Miami. :D

All four NFC East teams are projected to finish 9-7, with Washington winning the division and Dallas and the Giants making the playoffs as wildcards.

Also, I was surprised to see Cincy left out of the playoffs in favor of Baltimore.

If they have the Bears winning 11 games and winning a playoff game, then I'll guarantee Dr. Z didn't write it. He hates the Bears with a passion.

Well....he wrote it.

This was his explanation for Carolina over Chicago in the playoffs:

Last year the Bears undressed Carolina in the regular season, then Carolina returned the favor in the playoffs. Those two were in Chicago. This one's in Charlotte. A tight defensive struggle, won by the home team.

Branch has reached separate deals with both the Jets and the Seahawks. If one of those teams can meet New England's demands, a trade could happen.

This part right now is the kicker.

But neither team, the sources acknowledged, has been able to come to an agreement with the Patriots on compensation for the four-year veteran. And without the second half of the deal in place, the deadline could pass without a trade, and again force Branch to decide whether to extend his camp-long holdout.

There's lots of speculation that New England would rather send him to the Seahawks instead of the Jets, but the asking price is pretty high.

New England is seeking a first-round pick and perhaps a middle-round choice as well. ESPN.com's Michael Smith reported that league sources have indicated that the Patriots are looking to receive two No. 1 draft picks for their leading receiver.

This situation could be at an impasse'.

People close to Branch insist that he will not crack and will report to the Patriots only for the final six games of the season, enough to earn an accrued year toward the pension, and to qualify him for unrestricted free agency next spring.

Hey Cowboy fans....how and what is Coach Pasqualoni doing these days for your boys?

He's the linebackers coach and based on pre-season performance, he's getting a lot out of his unit. Brady James speaks very highly of him.

I just don't get that...didn't he sign the original deal? He's going to be a free agent next season anyway. Sitting out does nothing but hurt him.

Well, that's the point. He plans on sitting out except for the last six games so that he'll still be a FA, but the Pats won't have him for the bulk of the season.

But I still say he's only really hurting himself. He's not going to get a paycheck for the games he sits out, he'll probably be benched for those last 6 games, he's going to be going into a free agent year without recent performances to sell, and he's going to look like a big crybaby.

Surprised that only Salisbury and Schlereth picked Carolina to win it all. And Sean's been a Panthers honk for the last three years so he barely even counts.

Not that I'm complaining.

I always thought he would make a fantastic assistant coach. He's quite the workaholic and he definately knows the linebacker postion.

Thanks.

One of my colleagues taught Brady James in middle school, and the two are still close. I'll see if I can get some more information for you.

Watch a Cowboys game, and you'll see the linebackers are the backbone of that defensive unit. Of course when you have James, Ware, and Ellis to work with along with Carpenter on the second string, it's not hard to coach them into a good unit.

He coached the linebackers here when Coach McPherson left for the NE Pats job Coach P took over the reins here. He also played LB for Paterno at Penn State. We always had good LB's here too, he could always recruit those guys.

ESPN predicitions

2 people pick the Lions to win the NFC north. Schlereth picked the Vikings. The rest picked the Bears.

Also, the Bears are ranked 13th in the Power Rankings.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerranking?season=2006&week=1

The Raiders are ranked 25th, which seems about right.

Theismann's coach of the year makes no sense. He picks Brad Childress from the Vikings, but doesn't have the Vikes making the playoffs. Now, if it were a guy taking the Texans to a 9-7 record and just missing the playoffs, I could see it. But the Vikings weren't that bad last year, and if they miss the playoffs in the weaker conference - what exactly would the coach have done to deserve this award?

Maybe for keeping them out of jail. :D
