Play-by-play announcer Joe Buck has been tapped to join Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson and Howie Long on the Fox NFL Sunday pre- and post-game shows

Ugh. Ok so I have 2 questions...

1) Does this mean Joe won't be announcing games? Because I can watch the ESPN or CBS pregame shows, and then not ever have to see Joe, which might make this a good thing.

2) What happened to James Brown?

Ugh...he's doing both pregame AND play-by-play...

So the NFL set is going to be more like college gameday, on location at the site of the game of the week so that Joe can go straight from that job to the playbyplay.

NFL pregame shows are just background noice for me on Sundays. They are all awful, offering nothing to the viewer. It's just a combination of butt-kissing interviews, melodramatic sob stories and half-assed analysis. This is the time when I'm prepping the meat for the grill, testing the bloody mary's and checking the keg.

Every year. Every weekend actually, except half the weekends a big chunk of the usual crowd is at the Jets game. Each Sunday's menu is a pretty big project for me and the wife. Last year we averaged a keg and a half per week, with some going during college games, but most going during Sunday football/guys pass out girls watch whatever those shows are at night. Super Bowl Sundays are just a gluttony fest. We always have way too much food.

Broncos lost their first preseason game of the year, but the positives are Jay Cutler looked awesome (16/22 for almost 200 yards), and this new guy who apparently was working at a subway before the season caught 72 yards and a TD

Only a matter of time til Cutler beats out the horrible, Jake Plummer.

34-11 in 3 years with a 90% Passer Rating sure is horrible huh.

What does a 90% passer rating mean? I've honestly heard of or seen that stat before. 34-11 just means he's had good teams. Kyle Orton was what? 11-3?

the addition of the % was a goof on my part, but if you're questiniong the actual term passer rating

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passer_rating

You can't be considered horrible when you lead your team to 3 straight playoffs, regardless of the result in sed playoffs.

Of course. The reason the Broncos have made the playoffs 3 straight years couldn't be due to the fact that they have averaged the 2nd, 4th, and 2nd most rushing yards per game in 2003-2005 could it?

but are you still trying to push plummer = horrible because you should know that with someone like kordell stewart under center, they would not have made any playoff berths.

Plummer is a decent, and at best above average QB at the moment., and he looks to improve for the 4th straight time under shannahan.

Kordell Stewart is the definition of a horrible quarterback. Plummer is an average QB but all he has to do is play within the system and limit his mistakes for that team to be successful because they like to run the ball.

I used to be that way until Monday absenteeism became an issue.

so how many seasons of good starts then seeing the season ruined with a rash of knee injuries is it going to take before the Vikings change that knee eatting turf in the Metrodome?

anyone hear the status on their first round pick?

Greenway tore his ACL and is out for the year.

At first I thought you were kidding. Whoa, that's a pretty big blow.

There aren't that many things that are better than Sundays during football season. I can't wait for the season to start.

Watch for Stephen Jackson to have a ridiculous year. Go Rams!

I admit I wasn't really watching the game close last night. I missed it.

Yeah, that's a big one.

I didn't pay much attention to the game either, but from what I've found he hurt it covering a kickoff no less. I think this is the most injury-filled preseason I can think of in recent years, the rate of guys going down is incredible.

Posted
Maybe it's perception, but is there a higher rate of injuries (particularly season ending ones like ACLs) in the preseason than the regular season?

Well it would make sense considering that some players are out of shape/not limbered up like they might be in the middle of the regular season but I would guess that they are about the same.

Former Bronco Portis is right, we need to cut down on these games

I'm curious on why that would happen? I wonder how much of it would have to do with stretching or lack of.

I would think it would be a lack of actual game action, in which case there wouldn't be a whole lot that could be done to prevent it.

Well you also have a bunch of guys that are killing themselves to make the team and are hustling their butts off. They have to get to the ball in any way shape of form and show what they have. I'm glad the NFL went from 6 to 4 exhibitions.

I think a lot of these injuries are also due to bad technique and bad form by the younger players as the games go on. With LB's and S's they get lazy by not squaring up to the LOS and not wrapping up, instead you see guys start diving for legs which can cause some bad things to happen. You also see it with O-lineman who can't move their feet quick enough, and either get tangled up with someone or have someone come down on the backs of their legs.

I don't think it has to do with a lack of stretching because to them a game is a game; everyone still goes out onto the field and does their pre-game warmups, goes to get taped up, and approaches it like a regular game.

Steve Smith returned to practice today, so maybe (shh...don't want to jinx it) the Panthers can enter week 2 for the first time since 2002 without a key player done for the season.

there are the young players flying around, but we don't notice when guys who are trying to make rosters get hurt. we really only notice when guys who are definitely going to make the rosters get hurt.

with them, I think the opposite may be true. Football is particularly dangerous when guys aren't going all out. alot of players go through the motions leaving them exposed to awkward hits at awkward angles, and that leads to alot of injuries.

edit: Greenway was not just on the kickoff team, he was the wedge breaker. he went in hard and got knocked pretty good tangling his legs underneath him on that stupid turf.

For me, it's all about Saturday's during the fall. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the NFL. But I like college football a bit more.
