First place is now within our reach. If the Cubs don't overtake Pitt and KC with this stud on the team I don't know what other moves Hendry could do to make it better.

I disagree. First, the Cubs may want to limit Guzman's innings this year, given how little he's thrown since 2003. Second, they may have wanted to work on his mechanics. Third, the more time he spends in the majors, the less nervous he will be when he's a starter in 2007.

guzman's finally healthy and he goes two weeks w/o pitching. great organization.

on a positive note, maybe i'll bid on guzman's jersey at the jersey auction on friday.

I disagree with your disagree. First, if the Cubs want to limit Guzman's innings have him on a pitch count. Having him sit on the bench for 2+ weeks is no way to develop whatever talent he has. Second, how can he work on his mechanics if he never pitches in game situations? Third, how in the wide, wide, world of sports does sitting on the bench help him to not be nervous when he's pitching?

Your logic escapes me.

They need to get Bynum back first. Then they'll be unbeatable.

He's more of a "Waiting to Be Turned Into Glue" horse than a thoroughbred.

Didnt rusch pitch like 2.6 innings at AAA. This is so backass. Although if gooz isnt going to pitch id rather he be in AAA. BUT....BUT not for Rusch. Weurtz needs to be on the big roster not this fatty cake.

WHY IS RUSCH STILL ON THIS TEAM?????

Wouldn't this plan be a little more logical?:

See if anyone wants Maddux. I think it's safe to say he shouldn't be in next years plans.

Pitch Marshall, Guzman and Marmol the rest of the year with Prior and Z.

Then next offseason, the status of the starting pitching might be a little more clear.

But I forgot, Hendry thinks this current team is O.K.

That's what I would like to see as well. If the Cubs give all the young guys (include Hill and Ryu in there as well) some starts they should be able to see if the young guys should be considered for starting spots next year or if the Cubs need to go out and get a pitcher or two in free agency (Zito/Schmidt/etc) after this year. If the Cubs don't know if the young guys can be counted upon as starters then how will they know what the team needs in the offseason?

Oh who am I kidding, good organizations do this, not the Cubs.

Rusch says hes ready so they let him come back. LOL . Guess nobody remembers how he was throwing this year. Hopefully they're only showcasing him.

I think the 2 main reasons the Cubs wont let all the kids pitch the rest of the season are

1. Dusty just wouldnt do it. He would have Scott Eyre starting games or something. So Dusty would have to be fired first.

2. They are in some sort of weirdo world where they think the fans will be upset if they do it. Which is just not true and secondly if you are running your team to not make the fans upset you are probably running it wrong.

Christ almighty! All we've heard for like the last 10 years (hyperbole) is how great Guzman is going to be. Can we please just let him pitch? Ugh. Can we make some trades?

We can only dream. Gained another game on Pitt yesterday.

Another reason is b/c Dusty needs to maintian the integrity of the post-season races.

How exactly does one "showcase" Glendon Rusch?

He could be the Home Run Derby pitcher for the All-Star game.
