The 37-year-old former Cubs and Baltimore Orioles player rejected reports he had retired from the game and made it clear that he will come back to play baseball, probably next year. Last year with the Orioles, Sosa recorded a batting average of .221 with 14 home runs in 380 at bats.

``I am not retired. I am waiting for my time, to see if it is a chance for me to come back next year,’’ he said. ``I am always ready.’’

Sosa said he is now taking a year off as a free agent. He stressed he is practicing to return to the baseball stadium, although his practices are not regular.

Stay retired Sammy.

Only a matter of time before Hendry inks himm to a deal. I can see the press release now. "Cubs get older, resign Maddux and Sosa. Cubs GM Jim Hendry says he is very happy with these two moves. 'I feel our organization has overall improved with the signing of the two guys.' In unrelated news, new studies confirm that Hell will not freeze over anytime soon."

I never, ever thought the day would come when Sammy Sosa would be serving as a diplomat/envoy/representative. Crazy.

I wonder if he brought his lawyer to translate for him?

Boy, that's a good way to get into baseball shape, irregular practices. Like Banedon said, please stay retired Sammy. Don't tarnish your legacy any more.

The last thing I would want to see would be Sammy returning to Wrigley in another team's uniform and getting booed.

I can't imagine it being any worse than Sammy being in a Cubs uniform and getting booed. :?
